Hmm, maybe you can make me a SGK with mirror polished CA finish paper micarta handle! Gosh, even thinking about that makes me cringe! Paper micarta and CA finish have to be the most annoying to get right. Such a delicate process for a finish that is pretty durable. The last western straight I did had a CA finish and boy was it frustrating! I think I got lucky on the CA finish on your mini...which reminds me, I need to do another one soon. I've been collecting my cutoffs for forging. Next one I'm going to try a distal taper.

Damn it! Now I got that stuck in my head, I won't rest until I try it out. I know I can't be the only one with this disease. Get an idea, gotta do something about it right away. I know you are infected Daniel, or is it infectious?! Lol! :D

Well there goes my mental productivity for the rest of my shift...

Funny enough I got into Cyanoacrylate finishes when polishing rocks. That is how I found about water thin CA, from a pro turquoise polisher. I have some Andamooka Opal that literally looks like concrete until you it with some CA at 600 grit warmed up then finish. With stones it is easy, one drop coverage. I used to use it a fair bit, it can make a huge difference sometimes.

My buddy told me thy use it in archaeological restoration, he said they used cases of Starbond on dino bone. I like to use it when I polish the stuff as well.

I am leaving the paper at 1000 for the killer satin black but black compound will really make it pop. I bet with CA it would be an insane full mirror, very cool idea!

Get new belts for the paper micarta, it is a belt killer! It does hand finish nicely. It overheats easily with belts and turns green when that happens... you know. It grinds like rock....

Loll you are like me, get an idea and it won't go away until it is done.

Ok, I got a mini started tonight. Profiled, ground, and distally tapered. The ivory recurve long fighter I did was distally tapered, but it was done with geometry. Keep the bevels the same angle and as the spine drops it tapers as well. I didn't actually forge/grind the taper in. This one I did. I don't have a clue what its going to be, something vaguely asain (kinda like my wife! :foot:), short sword length, single edged and with a sori forged in. I'm open to thoughts and interpretations.

Good morning guys. Xander , man you have all the burners going don't ya?where did you get that giant penny?Just kiddin' That mini looks cool . It would be killer if you put a Japanese style wrap on it ,if you can find a wrap that would be to scale.I am checkering the scales on my hollow grind attempt knife today.Kinda pimping my own knife haha.
Daniel , what is thename of the knot that you tied on the minni cleaver? I would like to learn how to tie it but can't find it in any of my books.I am digging the grind on that leagal EDC. That tip is so polished I can see your reflection. Watch out if we get enough reflections we could piece them to gether and then we will know what you look like ! haha

Yep, I just might wrap it. Silk embroidery thead works well for the minis. I think the hardest part might be the the thin collar that goes around the tang (habaki?)

We'll see...

I just waned to let the world know , I just made the sharpest knife I have ever made ........ever! WOOP WOOP:triumphant:

Morning gang.

Gonna be a rough day at work. I've got a seperate sales ad starteing today I have to set this morning before opening, and another one for Friday. Thankfully, working at a pet store is not terribly bad during the holidays, not like when I was 20 and worked at Circuit City as a seasonal employee. That was rediculous.

Raining here this morning, going to be a wet ride to work.

A quick pic of the knife I made yesterday . I didn't even plan on making it, just kinda happened. It is the sharpest knife I have ever made! I shaved Xander's mom's back with it and of course it trashed the edge but that hair is like steel wool:D.I tried a grapefruit patina. It didn't come out like I thought it would but it came out pretty cool I think.

FBC - lmao!!! I'd keep the edge chipping for sure, serrated like a mofo! it might be better for next time :D :D :D

I have been busy here, I'm ready for Thanksgiving! whew!

Dust collector coming next week and man I'm glad, it was getting gnarly in the shop. Nothing like the smell of G10 in the morning! :D

Happy Thanksgiving guys!

Daniel, don't work too hard today :D

Happy Thanksgiving Matt!

lol, I hear you! worn out here... the break will be nice! I haven't been posting because I'm in the shop so much but I have a lot near completion...

I'm trying to figure out how to watch the Cowboys today with no TV signal, lmao I will watch football!!!

Time for some CAD...

CAD stuff

...for the most part ignore the wharncliffe, that is just something I drew up quickly to see if the concept works. I can change a few things and fit in a bigger blade on that one. I don't plan on a wharnie right away anyways, I want to nail one design first.

The poon tip has about 5 minutes in it so far and will probably change..

The holes you see don't really mean much either especially the big one you see on the butt.

I plan on using a massive pivot and stop, in fact I can't even find any precision ones that are bigger!

Happy thanksgiving y'all!

I got a phone call at 0630 this morning from my mother in law asking me what size shoe my son wears. Wtf?! She was out shopping this morning! Crazy lady!

I'm liking that drop point folder, good looking design!

Have a good one Daniel, Sara, and Jade! Now the real question, which knife are you going to use to carve the turkey?

-Xander

Can you make one gas powerd? Can you turbo a two stroke?I would want to EDC it.

Yeah, I noticed that once I looked at the pic on the computer, on my phone I didn't see it right away!

The DFK electric knife, 220V 2hp, do you also dress up like Dr. Frankenfurter when you carve it?!
