It was worth a try :D Thats funny I told Jen about that D3100 and all I got was a dirty look. I guess I shouldn't push my luck:D
Daniel,I have a extra full size tri pod that you can have. just let me know.
Y'all take care !

lol!

I'll let you know on that tripod, thanks! Very cool!

I just can't say thanks enough! :D

Too funny, lol! I didn't really have to ask about my camera, just went ahead and bought it, nothing she can say about it then! I don't really recommend that approach though!

Daniel, my D200 was rebuilt with a new shutter after 112,000 actuations! The good thing about Nikons is all their shutters are rated for 100,000 clicks on their SLRs. I think you will really like that lens on there, it gets really good reviews optically, I have some much more expensive lenses that show the same characteristics optically! I will recommend you pick up a UV filter and just leave it on the lens at all times, its cheap insurance, better to scratch or break a $15 filter than a $200 lens from dropping it. Plus it will make your outdoor photos look better.

lol Xander you are awesome! I ummm get what I want too. Yeah! lmao

100,000 clicks... wow! That is solid. I'm glad that lens sounds good too, I thought so as well but honestly don't know much about cameras. I'm excited I know that! :D

I watched some videos taken with one and it seems with a tripod I can get really nice results. That will be fun too!

Any recommendations on a filter? I bet I can get one locally.

Thanks again for the help! I just talked to the guys at 42nd street and am upgrading to a second battery... I knew I needed one but they hooked me up! They upgraded my shipping for free too. I'm impressed.

Cool stuff getting the second battery! I need another one, but your camera is far superior for battery usage than mine, I get about 350-400 shots per charge. For a filter, just get a standard UV haze filter. No need to worry about anything special. Howa, vivatar, Cokin, whatever brand, just get one with a metal ring (all but the cheapest are metal). Like I said, its more for insurance than anything.

Yeah I need two.. my photo tent gets set up in the kitchen or I'm outside so time is usually important. I was going to get away with one but heck it was a good deal. Lol they actually bargain on the phone, I like it!

I'm going to get a filter soon, that sounds key. I messed up the lens coating on my old camera and it really was problematic after that. I was being careful too, I treat my equipment well but it turns out one whack with pine resin will eat lens coating fast!

Oh man I'm excited!!!

I just did the detent on the folder too, I had to run up here and celebrate! It shuts and stays shut with absolutely no play!

I now have a UV filter and a Polarizing one too! Xander thanks again, that was cheap insurance and should make for even better pics! The polarizing lens came as part of the package and it was all i could find but I'm kind of excited to have it. They are the metal framed kind too, I remembered! .."aircraft grade" they look nice and were inexpensive.

I splurged and got an eye-fi wireless card, I use my card so much I think it will help with wear and tear on the camera. I can literally take pics and have them up online instantly! I have to set it up for facebook or something... I think it will be cool.

I'm going to look for some more bulbs next... must check Coop's thread and order some. I think I have the right kind (cool white) but they are getting really hard to find locally in any decent amount of wattage.

This camera stuff is fun, I got to check out the camera I am getting today in person and it looks sweet!

Daniel, don't stress too much over the bulbs, your camera will be able to deal with the white balance better than you think! If you need more light, just get more bulbs. The fixture I'm going to build will take 5 27 watt CFL's and be able to use any bulb that will fit the socket! If I like how it turns out maybe I'll throw a senond one together for you, just the fixture, so you can shade it how you want.

I found a really neat trick with polarizing filters, take your computer monitor and make the screen all white (either a blank .doc or note pad), set th camera on a tripod focused on th screen and fill the frame with it. Now take any clear plastic items like drafting templates, or little storage boxes, really any clear plastic item and lay them against your monitor. Rotate th polarizing filter until the white screen goes black on the cameras lcd and watch the amazin colors of the plastic show up! They will look like the surface of a bubble, or an oil slick!

Memory cards, FORMAT, FORMAT, FORMAT! Always format the card every time you dump your pics off it. I have memory cards that are 6-7 years old and have been used in dozens of differen cameras. Anytime I empty it I always format it to help wipe out any bugs it may have picked up. I have an extra SDHC card I'll send you, my gear doesn't support it so you can have it. It is a 4gb card and speed rated at #4. Its recommended to use a speed rating of #6 or higher for video on your camera, but if you keep the videos short I think a #4 should be fine. It will just pause and buffer for a second if it doesn't work for video, but no issues with stills.

Good job on the filters, I keep one on ALL my lenses. Even my cheap little 28 f/2.8 MF lens has one. I thought of some more goodies to send you just now as well. Little things that accumulate over time but you may not think about when starting out.

I need to go to the PO tomorrow or Wednesday anyways, so I'll send it all then.

I'm glad your getting excited about this! If you don't have it already, I'll email yo a link for Adobe PhotoShop CS2 to download for free direct from Adobe, legally!

Cheers!

Good call on the bulbs, I think I'll wait. They are pretty pricey too! 1000bulbs.com for cheap bulbs by the way

I'll try that trick! I used to record video feedack... fun times!

Format... lol how do I do that! I think with the camera... as my first digital would but the other one does not, it has always had a few big glitches. I still have a card from my honeymoon that I need to get recovered, keeping them going well is crucial. Good stuff! I had no idea on the speed rating either... looked at a bunch today and was confused! Now I know and that goes a long ways. :D

I'll always have a filter on the lens now that I can and know. I'm going to read up a bunch on the camera forums just to get my knowledge built up on the subject. I was going to pay for pics of my folder but I'm hoping to get good enough to do them myself! (may pay for pics too just because it is a good thing... want to get good though!)

I got a letter saying they need pics for the new Knives 2014! I made the makers list in the last one but pics would make my whole year!

And hey, THANKS! Really cool.

Y'all are killin' me with all this camera talk. I've been wanting a D200 for a while and I've been looking at the D3100 for months. :(

Well, you can get a kick ass bare bones D200 and two lenses for around $500 easily, maybe $400 with some smart shopping.

Morning Squatchlings!

Its forecast to be 78* today and in the 80's tomorrow! I love it, but its too soon for this heat, the farmers aren't happy about it.

Hope spring is coming to y'all soon enough!

-Xander

Sounds nice! Hopefully it will stay cool for the crops though...

The snow is melting fast here! I have gotten away with just a hoody and a tshirt most of the winter so that was nice.

Busy day here, finishing up lot of gear! This week will hopefully be the Ultralight 15n20 mini-dashis and a one off TiBOK. (and a custom dashi) Next week is Damascus kiridashis!

Evening guys.

Just got home from work, after a quick stop at the liquor store for my day-off supplies to be consumed tomorrow. Found a new beer to try out...

Will report my findings tomorrow, although it may be difficult to type after the 15% Barley Wine Ale!

Oh crap you guys mean to tell me camera lenses can scratch:confused:My camera(no lens cap) has been floating around my messenger bag with random bike tools and knives for .............well years:D Shes a tough old girl!
Xander, I am off tomorrow too. Give me a call around noon thirty
Have a good night y'all!

15% are you still with us Xander! Barley wines are my favorite, I like beers that I can store. I had a Dead Guy Ale in a glow bottle, I really like that beer...

lol Kevin! I messed up the lens on my last camera right off the bat and still took probably 10,000 pics on it... I might keep a lens cap on this one though, it costs a lot more!

My camera has been shipped and is expected on Monday! I'll be able to get some good pics of the folder and balisong when they are done!

Mornin guys!

Daniel, that's why you bought the cheap filters, so you scratch and mess those up, not the lens! Believe me, its much easier on your emotions and wallet when you scratch a filter. But, as you noticed I'm sure, a scratch on a lens will rarely show up in photos because the camera isn't focused on it. Dust on the sensor will when focused at infinity, but if you have a rubber squeeze bulb left over from Jade's baby stuff, those are great for blowing dust off the lens or out of the body, just do it with the body opening facing down so dust doesn't fall back into it.

Here is what dust on a sensor will do to your images... (excuse the heavy pixelation, I over compressed it for facebook)

See all those specs floating in the sky? That's dust from me changing lenses on a dirt road in the wind.

Rouge River Brewery is one of my favorites! The Dead Guy Ale is just awesome. I have a bottle of Sierra Nevada Hoptimum Imperial IPA that has been cellered since February 8, 2011, its from the first batch they made and were under strict limited distributership, even BevMo only could get 10 cases at a time! I got a whole case for $120 that year, it is a truely awesome beer. I had one about two months ago and it just improved so much with time. I'm thinking next month it should be about at its peak.

Kevin, I'm off today too. I'll give you a call later.

Dust ufo's! :D

Aging beer is interesting, it is nice to have something strong to age. I want to make a strong ale and maybe an oaked barleywine eventually this year. Arrogant Bastard is an easy to find beer to age that I like too...

Tomorrow I'm working more on the 15n20 dashis and really hope to get them completed!

Anybody ever check out kickstarter?

I'm seriously considering putting my keychain tools there for a funding run. I want to make a bunch of them!

Morning!

I think Kickstarter is an awesome program, I've seen some really cool things on there. I think you would do well with the key chain tools on there. How big of a run are you considering, 100? More?! Be sure and let us know here if you go that route!
