(Laughs evilly)

Sorry- I didn't mean to solicit here. It was more of a hypothetical question too, as I'm not actively in the market.

Maybe we should start a hobbies/wares whoring thread? :D

Crap I already wired up the laser! :D

Hobby thread sounds cool to me! We had one but it is ancient... we need a new one!

Haha, hobbies...

Mine seem to change weekly! I have a few constant ones, but I'm always trying somethin new!

I haven't turned G10 on a wood lathe, I need to try it. I tend to gravitate to the natural materials more, though.

Yep, that set of three was a pay it forward gift, and I just talked with him yesterday and he is using them! I know they are pretty, but they are tools afterall!

I have some ideas for what to try turning soon, and am seriously considering a new wood lathe this month. We'll see what comes of it!

My hobbies are - knives.

I usually have a few going on, I'm going to have to do some of them eventually, lol!

G10 could be pretty cool... the wood is looking killer!

New lathe, nice! That would be cool. I want a metal lathe eventually. Wood lathe too!

Yeah, a machine lathe would be so nice, but the rule of thumb with those is to take th cost of the mchine and double it for all the tooling! Wood lathes are cheap in comparison. Good thing I alrady kno how to make knives, so wood turning tools are just a simple project. These handles are made using just a 1/2" bowl gouge and a 3/4" skew. I already have a good set of turning knives, so just a new lathe is all I would need.

That't true, same with a mill. A lathe is more of a wish than a need right now so I'll be on the lookout for one but only if it is a steal. I'd like to find an old gunsmithing setup or something of the likes.

Dudes! You all need ONE Ti blade! Do it!
Yesterday I showed my Ti zero ground Nick Rossi kiradashi to my Godfather and he could not believe how sharp Ti could get!

Damn it Rolf(!) Now I have to go make a Ti friction folder. Thanx a lot man, just what I need, another knife to grind :D

Actually, I have an idea, I really liked Daniels Ti/silver twill fricky design, but I'm going to make one even lighter and with a stronger handle! I have some CF/Kevlar composite material that was scrap from an upper atmospheric weapons project I worked on a while back, this stuff is ridiculous. Thin, light, crazy stiff! I just need the hardware, maybe I'll order some Ti chainring bolts. When I get it going I will send it off to Daniel to have the edge carbidized.

Mornin y'all!

Oh yeah, Daniel, how's the tip strength of Ti? Do pointy profiles hold up reasonably well? I'm going to use .060" 6/4 Ti.

-X

Sounds excellent Xander!

Leave the tip on the thicker side. Pointy is fine but you want some metal behind it.

Hi all. Working overtime, more money but less forum time.

Good to see you here! That is great you are getting in some overtime too.

We've been thinking of you and hope you find an even better job when you need to. Thanks again for all the help. I haven't cranked up the mill but it isn't for lack of shop time, right now I'm waiting on folder parts and will get going on them full time soon. You are going to like what I have in store for yours! :D

lycosa- Does Rossi still do regrinds?? And I have several Ti blades.. I'm not sure if I like them polished or toothy though.. I recently have been cutting everything in site with a crazy BT ti hawkbill type blade.. thing push cut better than most knives... but wears quickly I feel... agree? no?

And it seems as Ti wears and the carbidized edge is exposed more, you are only left with toothy... unless of course you sand or strop all the carbides off... yes? Tis my experience so far... cheers

X- You are welcome! :D
I have a "cool" folder in the works with Mr. Daniel.
Sloth- Nick is very busy but I would contact him. Or, I can. lmk.
I just lightly buff my Ti blades to bring them back. And yes, they do wear faster than a steel blade but not by much, imo.
