I second Daniel's advice, the first power tool should be a drill press, beyond that do it all by hand. I still do a lot of work by hand, and fix lots of screw ups with files and sandpaper, lol!

It really goes faster with a file at first, one you are ready to mess with grinding (as opposed to making knives, lol) then get 12' of steel and grind all of it!

I just filed in a massive swedge because I wasn't nailing it with the grinder, best to have it right than do it fast.

It's like you can get women faster with money but in the long run you will be happier getting one the hard way, lmao!!!

Know what you mean about hand tools. I have a fancy scroll saw but I still rough out most of my Kydex stuff with shears. It's easier, and it doesn't send the morbidly obese psychopath lady in the next apartment into a spittly-flecked rage like power tool noise seems to. :D

I'm gonna be real tardly about it, and draw everything out in marker, and employ my most sacred engineering principle- TLAR.

This is what I'm going for- I know it has problems like the grip is too short, but aesthetically this is what I'm shooting for. Sorry for the mess- I don't own an eraser and I should have known better than to have strayed from my preferred medium, the Sharpie.

Nah! Chinese Fantasy Blade!

I've already decided- CM154 blade if I can find a chunk. Natch CF with purple ano ti liners and purple ti hardware. Maybe red G10 spacer. I'm thinking 3/16" blade, 1/4" spacer, and some PB bushings and/or teflon washers. Rough stonewash and sandblast on everything.

Don't know if you've heard this remix yet Daniel but it's pretty awesome

Mornin y'all!

Well, had a great evening yesterday. After my fine cigar I went in and had a pleasant straight shave and for dessert I chocolate dipped some strawberriers. Brandi took Zyler on a 3.5 mile walk yesterday, so he was down for the count almost as soon as his head hit the pillow!

Been at work now for a little bit, gonna be a laid back day. Local SPCA will be here in a few hours with all the dogs for adoption, so I can play with them!

I also plan to work on my super secret design some more, maybe sketch out my frikky today as well.

Bako, don't forget to round the end of the tang on the frikky, it will not be comfortable if it sticks you with it when closed!

Weekend Warrior??? ^ :D
Glad you posted that, lol my wife is now rushing to go to the PO! :D We thought it was a weekday.

I have already finish ground 10 knives this morning... about to clean them up and sign them. Playing catch up and have much more going on later! :D

Afternoon my fellow weekend warriors!!!!Hope all is well with everyone!

Have a good one BigCountry!

Daniel, your thoughts on hardening small pieces of 15n20. I have a design I'm working on that will use a piece of 15n20 roughly 2 inches by 7/8 inches and .060" thick. It will have a radius hammerd in (think hollow grind not profile). So it is a small cupped plate.

You think I could get by with a 3-5 minute soak at austenizing temp? I will normalize it before bringing up to temp. I just don't have the precise temperature control for longer soak times, so if I can get away with shorter times, the better. I'm shooting for 60-61 hRc so temper will be 350 or 375.
