Very nice of you Bobby!

Good morning ni1s!

I'm taking part of the day off today... feeling rough and the kids are sick. This the first time Jade has gotten a cold and she is 3. We haven't slept in about 4 days and I'm kind of delirious!

Xander I saw some of the drilling hammers you mentioned yesterday, good call on those. I mirror polished my tiny ball peen hammer and it rocks... need to find the rest of my old hammer collection. I want to make some too, maybe some 1" square ones...

I need to go pick up my anvil and post vise back home!

I'm looking at surface grinders now and after that will have a well rounded shop. I was just talking to one of the big folder makers and he told me I was probably adding a day to my build time by hand lapping.

Morning.
Daniel I feel your pain on the sick kids my little man thats 3 came down with the flu Thursday it was pretty rough but he is doing better now.

Surface grinders dang man you are going to be a well oiled machine when you get all these cool new tools.
Have you thought about Travis surface grinder attachment for your 2x72? They look slick but not sure the cost as compared to a dedicated unit.

Good he is feeling better! We are in the same boat with the kiddos!

I was looking at the TW surface grinder attachment and it looks awesome. I'm hoping to spend about $500 on a used unit... have found a Boyer-Schultz unit semi locally for that price and I might call on it... it is somewhat beat up but they are built like tanks. I need to talk to you about those auctions too!

I have been planning on upgrading the shop for a while now but was considering moving to town. My shop has a wooden floor and can only handle so much weight. I decided to get a larger mill that will still work in my shop and for the surface grinder I will pour a concrete pad in my carport for it. I may have to cover it with a tarp and heat it up in the Winter but that is better than nothing! lol

Morning guys!

Happy Birthday Bobby's mom!

Daniel, did you pick up a drilling hammer? They are pretty nice for forging. I've even seen them ground into cross-pein hammers before.

Hope all the kids get better, they turn into little snot factories when they're sick, not fun!

Make it great!

Thanks X!

No hammer yet but they did not have any with wooden handles... I want wood for sure. They were very affordable which is great, I may order one if I need it quickly. The flea market here starts up soon and one guy always has loads of old hammers... hopefully I can snag a used one.

I'm going to use some rail I have at first to hammer on but I know it isn't very good... will need to upgrade there too. It might make a good post for a Japanese style anvil.

Lash that rail to a big ol' stump as tight as possible. I like my rail anvil, it's about 65-70# and I have it on my bench right over one of the steel legs on concrete floor, so it behaves pretty good for most smaller things. I need to get my Peter Wright all cleaned up and mounted in a stump, I have an odd little cement pad in one corner of my yard maybe 3'x4' that would make a good little station for the anvil and my small forge.

Forging is fun!

Xander that sounds like a really good setup! Get that anvil on the slab!

What forge design do you use... I was checking out your forged minis the other day while doing a search. Too cool! I might make a coffee can forge first.

Thanks on the rr anvil idea too, sounds good.

I need to make some more minis again, those are fun. Did you see the plains man's hawk and belt knife set I did in 1/5 scale? Those were some of my favorites, they went to Zaph1 a couple years ago. I use Zaphs two brick forge design with the bricks cut in half and hollowed out, just using MAPP gas canister torch right now, it gets plenty hoy for the little chamber it has. I use propane when doing HT on 1084 so I don't burn the tip with MAPP.

Maybe I'll make you another mini, that USM3 you have came out awesome if I don't say so myself!

Just for fun, here's those minis

Do those fit in GI Joe hands? That would be cool... Joe could eff up all the toys around with that bowie... Green Army men would run!

These are appropriate for the old style large GI Joe figures, they would be pretty accurate scale to those.
