Kev, I'm the Joker there! I might just put a dozen finches in someone's locker on my last day, lol!

But it's been nice seeing all my long time regular customers this week and getting all the well wishes and hugs. But, I'm still going to need to go in there to buy my own pet food. So, I'll get to see everybody still.

Just finished dinner. It's going to be really nice not coming home after my boy is in bed and eating so late, I get to be part of my own family again!

Make it great, whatever you do!

Ugh, stupid mockingbird (M. Polyglottos) has been singing it's head off outside my bedroom for over an hour now keeping me awake. The wife took some NyQuil so she isn't hearing a thing. Damn bird.

Hurray for Friday! And I just ordered my first DFK! A stonewashed backpacker. :)

I must say I'm a bit skeptical about titanium, but the design looks awesome, and reviews where rave, so I couldn't resist. I'm planning on using it as my Saltwater-EDC.

Good morning guys!

Cool stuff ni1s! I think you will really like the Ti especially for a salt water setup. I still want to do a dedicated dive knife style sheath for it. The carbide really works well for sawing through rope so they are great in an emergency as well.

Good pic of the bird on FB Xander! We saw a Bald Eagle yesterday while driving to do mail, there is a spot here where they hang out. Blue Heron too, it must have had a 6' wingspan. The Mockingbirds are cool sometimes, we had one back home for years that would mimic the cats or someone whistling.

My pipe for a blown forge burner is in and I finally ordered a blower last night... a real Blacksmiths forge blower which is cool! I'm eating Ramen for a while. :D Meanwhile my Tapmatic broke for no apparent reason (it is super beat up) so I am on the lookout for one. (ouch!) I found an inexpensive hammer also, a 1000 gram (2.2#) Nordic Hammer! I'm going to set sail tonight and plunder distant lands...

You put the hot steel in, you put the hot steel out, you put the hot steel down and you pound it all about...
:D

Morning guys!

That fu****g bird chirped and sang until about 430am! It seems a bit early for them to be starting mating calls, especially since this sounded like an older and mated bird which usually calls in only one direction. Younger/unmated birds will call in all directions and move around a lot more. That pic on my FB is a stock photo, not mine.

Working on my dad's newest AR today, blue printing the upper receiver for him. It's only about 10 minutes work, but he hasn't done it before.

Enjoying my day off before my last day at work! Having a breakfast beer too.

Thanks Daniel! That sounds even better than I was hoping for! :)

This is why I like to blueprint the face of these receivers, even a quality machined forging, the face is not perfectly square to the threads. I'm about halfway through this one, you can see the silver areas that have been removed so far.

Now the barrel will seat square, the bolt will align with the barrel extension perfectly too. If you're running iron sights, this will help keep your windage adjustment right in the middle too.

Xander that is cool! Keep us updated if you can. Very nice... also excellent breakfast choice today. I have read a little bit about blueprinting engines back in the day, different but interesting stuff.

BLK, you rock dude! Thanks so much for the instagram posts and even more for the inspiration!

Np, buddy! When I download the pics to my phone they're crystal clear but I don't know why after I upload to IG it's kind blurry! :p

Daniel, the concept is exactly the same, taking parts and machining them to blueprint dimensions, rather than leaving them in blueprint tolerance dimension. That upper is one of the worst ones I have seen myself, I've seen worse online though, but in reality it's something like .0025" out of spec. It's face is now true to its bore. I will post up pics when they are done! I fully plan to put them under the lights and take good pics too.

Just finished stuffing myself beyond full of sushi with the mother in law, wife and kid. All you can eat sushi! I'm hurting now, lol!

Nice! I am a big Sushi fan... spent a couple of years making it part time which was a lot of fun.

Do you measure the gap with shims?

Tolerances are interesting. .001" each way can be huge, I can press fit a .25" pin in a .249" hole and it will drop right through s .251" hole.

Thanks again on the instagram stuff BLK, they look good to me!

Bobby - tapmatic will fix it but it costs 40% of the new value if it is fixable... I think I messed mine up trying to remove the arbor when I first got it and knew it was going to bite the dust. I can get a used one for less than fixing it so I'm looking every day. It has been screwed up for a couple of weeks but is completely locked up now... luckily I had a RF2 already tapped from the most recent group, that is the milled one I posted here recently. I'm getting one ASAP, the mega RF2 is next!

Morning gang, 8 HOURS TO GO!!!

On my last shift and last day here at the pet store!

The truing of the upper is just bringing the face true to its bore all the way around. How far out of spec isn't a concern, I just go until I have a nice even silver band all the way around it. Sometimes that takes just a couple minutes and other times (like on this one) it takes longer. But it's all trued up now! The barrel extension (similar to a tenon on a bolt action rifle barrel) is actually a separate piece that it threaded onto the barrel and is what slides into the receiver, is precision ground and the shoulder is true to it, then a barrel nut slides over the barrel capturing the shoulder against the receiver face with the external threads of the receiver. There is some tolerance built into the barrel nut, so if the receiver is a little off it still holds it securely, but the barrel might be a couple thousandths in some direction. Doesn't sound like much, but to move the bullet 1" at 100 yards, the rear sight only has to move 0.008"! So "tolerance stacking" is something to watch out for and can cause issues even when all parts are in spec. Can even make a gun non functional!
