Sounds cool! I have a piece of 10" pipe that is 18" long for my next build. Stainless sounds excellent!

The inswool comes in 2' wide pieces so if you order one foot you get a 12"x24" section.

I just built the forge out of extras (and skimped on purpose for this incarnation just to show what $30 will do) so that I had so it is not "the ultimate forge" but I'm surprised by the performance. The RR Spike got hot so quick I was seriously surprised... it would have taken a while in the kiln.
I would have probably done something similar if my brother hadn't offered up the stainless. I dig it D. And always thanks for the info. Can't wait to see what you make with it.

Well today sucks. Had to take mom and her dog to the vet to have her dog put down. Mom is having a hard time. Ugh. The ONLY downside to having pets is when they have to go.

Time to start this day over again...

Damn, X. My condolences. It's so hard to lose a furry friend like that. Best you can do is console her during this time.

Hi Ben!
Hi guys.
Daniel! Did tongs work ok or did you have to adjust them?

Perfect! They are super ergonomic, strong and lightweight/well balanced. Tongs come in different widths and thee are perfect for 1/4" stock or more... just about everything I work with at one stage. They are perfect for casting/crucibles too and will get a ton of use. Big thanks!

I have some newer tongs my Dad scored, they look really killer and work great but the tongs you gave me are nice and light yet can handle anything... true old world craftsmanship.

Thanx guys, mom is doing ok. It was tough for her because the dog came from her best friend from childhood who was a breeder and passed away last year. So this and her other remaining dog are her ties to her friend still.

Talked with mom and confirmed she made the right decision, she feels better about it.

Daniel, now the fun part is to forge some tongs for yourself! Channel lock brand pliers are 1080 steel...

Hey X,
Thoughts and well wishes for your Mom. I am a dog guy, and have had to put more than my fair share to rest, for the betterment of the pet. It's hurts for sure. Hope all eases well for your family.

X, good to hear your mom is coming to grips with things. It is a tough thing to do for sure.
Y'all have a good night. I am going to try to go to sleep as soon as I can. I gotta get up at 4am .... that is close to the time I usually am going to sleep. ohhh well, one time won't kill me. If it does you will know why I stopped posting. :D

Thanks guys. I'm just an animal person, except for cats. Cats are assholes.

Kevin, I'm surprised you're even trying to go to sleep!

Good morning!

Big thanks on the forge vid! I used the tongs you gave me to quench that big rr spike, they worked great. It was tricky doing a quench from behind a tripod too, the long reach was very nice!

The forge is awesome for knifemaking but you can make all sorts of stuff, I want to make a set of hinges and a lock... treasure chest! :D

I'm building the large forge soon, I still need to locate some small parts and it is on! I'm getting carried away and probably building a little foundry furnace for casting metal. I have some knife ideas that might work out nicely with new techniques.

Hey guys!

Got my second upper built today! Also, got my cycling issue on my 6.8 tentatively diagnosed. Rough chamber is not allowing the case to eject smoothly and need to be polished. I just finished making a tool to hold some scotch brite pad that can be chucked in a drill to polish it out. Will then follow up with some #0000 steel wool, finally, a very thorough cleaning. I really hope this fixes my issue! I kinda felt like face palming when my smith took one look at my fired brass and diagnosed it, in my narrow mindedness I never even looked at my brass beyond looking for pressure signs!

So, a quick 20 minute job should be all it takes, hopefully.

Took my old buddy Radar to the vet today, his license expired and he needed his rabies and parvo/distemper vaccines. He really enjoyed the ride in the truck, even though I have to pick him up to get in and out now.
