Slip floats (slip bobbers) slid up and down your line, you use them generally for fishing deeper than 4' as with a fixed float you have to have all that line hanging off the end or your rod when you cast. Slip floats stop against a small bead threaded onto you line above the float which then stops again a small knot of a separate line tied onto your fishing line. The stopper knot can slide up and down or just be reeled up and over in the spool. A split shot on the line under the bobber stops it from sliding all the way down to your hook.
It's rather simple and great for catching this big ol' bull bluegill that prowl the depths during the summer. Also good for catfish too. Simple, inexpensive and secure. Fixed floats are like the old red and white plastic ball floats, they are fixed position on your line.
