Fall Becker East Gathering Pic Thread

I, uh, may have been the person that "adjusted" the edge of that bush sword. I think Erik got most of it sorted but if he didn't let me know and I will either pay for it to get fixed or replaced or whatever.

lol, the funny part is, you "adjusted the bush sword on 1" branches. Kinda blew my mind really :P
but after the adjustment it was cool cause it made julien fry cuts :P that was pretty spiffy

So it begins.

Unlike most of the previous gatherings, there were no formally planned events this time. And so, the meals seemed to fill this void and became the main events of the gathering. And we feasted.

On saturday morning, breakfast burritos with sausage, eggs, potatoes, Chorizo seasoning and cheese.

The fire had burned down over the night, and the wood pile had been rained on earlier in the week.

We used an ancient mountain man trick to get a fire going with the wet wood.

I also prepared some biscuits in the dutch ovens.

I think this was one of the best weeks I have had in ages..... A great start on Wed with Derek, Pointy and Murph and then things just got better and better........Fantastic weather ...... One of the great things about this event(not just this week) is how the people at the gatherings chip in and get stuff done..... Never a problem to find a cheerful volunteer....... Makes for a happy host and a smooth running event.......A big thanks to everyone for coming.... We had a couple of. Grand surprises Chance, Laura, and Remington happened to be in the neighborhood and added greatly to the festivities and the grand entrance of the Trades was welcome to say the least..... And a great big thanks to Derek, Pointy and Murph for help with both set up and tear down, the ever helpful Vik, Moose and Mrs. Trade, The Shadow and Gutsy and Phillip on the tear down...... Doc thank you for all the help at the grill and a grand evening of knife talk.......

It is hard for me to express how much fun I had and how thankful I am at finding so many close friends and being able to hang with them.......Friends, fire, fellowship, food, and sharp things......Whoot, Whoot Yay, Etc, Etc.

THANK YOU !

E

This might have been our favorite gathering. We were resigned to the fact that we wouldn't make it but things changed and the opportunity opened up. This was just a relaxing outdoor party and we got to actually spend time visiting with people we don't see nearly as much as we'd like to. Didn't take many pictures, but damn what a great time we had. Many thanks to Ethan for his legendary hospitality and Kabar for their generosity.

A few pics..

This was pretty much a three day food orgy and you've seen most of it already, but I have to say this heavenly creation by Pointy was just incredible.

Some pretty nifty setups.

I have to say Moose's girls stole Kay's and my hearts. Well mannered, smart, funny and good outdoor skills already. If this is the next generation of Beckerheads we're in good shape. Somehow I didn't get a shot of them both.

Thanks again to all that put in the hard work necessary to pull this off.

My girls enjoyed themselves so much, it was unreal.

Thank you all for that. I'm an interactive parent, and I live for the opportunity to help my kids grow.

The sword fights, slingshot coaches, and just getting to spend time around other adults besides me and their mom, made this a memory that will last a lifetime.

I thank ya'll so much.

Moose

I've missed three gatherings since finding you guys, i vow to not miss the next. I'm happy you folks had a blast, and envious that i didn't attend.

I think it's cool. I'm going to give it a sharpening and get it headed back to CF.

ETA: This event crushed my calorie counts. Matter of fact, I need to go running right now.

Those nut reviews are fantastic. They're best when they're fresh, of course. Wouldn't want anything but warm nuts, right?

Derek, don't worry about edge adjustment on the bush sword. I'm sure I can take care of that, and if I can't, I need to practice more. Hopefully it did a good job at chopping and bashing and so forth.

Ok, I'll be the one to break it to you.

About the 3rd or fourth chop, the edge waffled big time. 2 really big dents, in opposite directions.

But it didn't chip out, Vik pounded them back and stoned them some.

Clarification. Not the third or fourth chop from the start. We chopped quite a bit with it prior to the "adjustment."

Vik tried it and chopped some smaller stuff. Ethan tried it and chopped some smaller stuff.
I tried it and chopped some smaller stuff, and I chopped on a large fallen tree. No issues.
The issues arose with chopping a small, live tree. Different angles, green wood. Stresses went sideways and were too much.
Ethan seemed to think the issue involved having a knife edge/grind on what is essentially a machete. Too thin at the edge.
Like Moose said, to its credit, no chip outs.

Hey Crimson one......

That baby felt really good on the downswing, really good...... Steel can only take so much and a grind that thin on a blade that long brings really incredible stresses....... The performance was really impressive..... Text me your number and we should talk...... Thank you for the couple of whacks I took with that beast...... Very satisfying, my friend, very satisfying indeed......

Ethan

The nut reviews are fantastic, as they rightfully should be. No one has tasted such heavenly nuts before, well done G.
