Seems like everybody wants their favorite fixed blade knife company to make a folder. The Busse fans have been begging for one for years. Scrap Yard, too is not without such requests. Busse makes heavy duty fixed blades, much like the ESEE line but in their own steel. Why would I expect to buy a folder from them? Benchmade, Spyderco, Blade Tech, Kershaw, and a bunch of others know how to do that and do it well. Swamp Rat (another Busse company) did actually sell one. It is an excellent folder, but it is made by Blade-Tech. ESEE is a little different. They don't make knives. They design them and contract others to make them, like Cold Steel does. Are there no currently manufactured folders good enough to wear the ESEE logo? Seems to me that all that is needed is some ESEE scales attached to a good framelock and you have it. I have a Ritter Survival folding knife. It is basically a griptilian. Just my two cents on the subject. I just don't see the need to reinvent the wheel.

Rowen will be the manufcaturer. They have made folders before and they are extremely high quality. A lot more to folders than meets the eye, thus the reason we have been so damn picky about who can/will do one for ESEE.

They should ask Chris Reeve but he has to leave out the "Idaho Made" :D

J/k.
I have little folder knowledge. I do love my large sebenza(with IM on it) and from my brothers benchmade its clear they make good stuff too.

I am glad to hear that, Jeff. I did not know that Rowen had experience in folders. And, yes, I am aware of the precision machine work required to make a folder, which is why I suggested using a manufacturer that does that well. As Emily Latella might say....."Never mind".

Well don't get your feelings hurt big guy ;)

I don't have anything high quality (yet) but I really do enjoy my SOG Aegis in digi camo and my SOG Flash 1. I ordered a DPx HEST folder so I can't wait to see something high quality.

depends on how much you want to spend, kershaw and spyderco perform very well for the money. that said i really like my sebenza

Haha. I'm too old and crusty to have my feelings hurt that easily. I've been carrying and using my old Swamp Rat (Blade-Tech) Rat Trap for years, and it has been outstanding. I bought a couple of ZT folders, which were built like tanks, but like most armor, they are heavy. I like your design just fine. Can't wait to see what Rowen can do with it.

I have bought and used about 15 folders in last two years, cause I was looking for the "folder-grail". I´ve had Ontario RAT1, ZT0350, Spyderco Sage 2, custom Mayhem-like butterfly knife from RWL34 steel, Kershaw Steven Seagal and Blur S30V, Ritter RSK Mk1 and more.

Now I have Sebenza Classic for about half year. And I got as close to the "folder-grail" as possible, the knife is superb and the fit&finish is outstanding. I have never held such incredibly manufactured and reliable folder in my hands, including some customs. And at last Sebbie is beautiful knife.

But I really really want to have Esee-3F!! It seems it can stand more heavy work but remains great slicer. And it looks absolutely astonishing, so simple and useful!! I think I´m gonna suffer from headaches every morning when choosing between Sebbie and Esee folder - which knife should I put in my pocket?? But I´m looking forward to it :D!

For me, a nice slipjoint fits the bill for the everyday tasks. I would love to see a slip joint produced by ESEE again.

I was wondering if Rowan had made folders before. I'm curious as to which ones (TOPS folders maybe?). Thanks!

As much as I love my Sebenza's, sometimes I want a "down and dirty" pocketknife that I can really dig in the dirt with, so to speak. Right now that niche is filled with an Spyderco M4 Military. Great knife but it is pretty large. I really really like the metal framelock/G10 handle though and am looking forward to that concept with a 3" -3 1/2" blade. The retail HEST/F was on my radar, but it may get bumped....possibly

I've been using my SOG Flash II for the better part of 3 years now, it's held up great except the handles now allow the deep carry clip to wiggle quite a bit. 3 years of use for around $50 for AUS-8 (which has held up great) was a great purchase in my mind - assisted opener too.

Just wish mine was plain edge.

I’m looking forward to an ESEE folder because I know it will look good, be simple, and be built like a brick shithouse.

Of the big name folder companies out there, there really aren’t a lot of models that trip my trigger. I’ve shopped almost every popular folder company out there and every time I’m on the verge of buying one, I just put my $30 Leek back in my pocket and move on.

Ditto on that...just waiting.

My favorite is a Great Eastern Cutlery Serpentine Jack knife. Sharpens up like a champ and has preformed every task I asked it to.

I'm curious to see the finished 3/f. I know it will be a good knife. The price point will be a huge factor for me. The fact is ESEE is responsible for making me EDC fixed blades, and ATM I am fazing out folder use as much as possible.

God bless,
Adam
