Favorite Brand Folder

furfmonkey, I asked a simple question, I'm neither for or against, your reply added absolutely nothing of value to this thread, since you did not know the answer. "just my op"

...Strider PTs but so far they haven't lured me away from my edc ZT350. I'm not unhappy with any aspect of the ZT especially since it's about 1/3 the price of PT.

Interesting, these days I´m thinking a lot about buying Strider PT too. I might change my Large Sebbie for Small version, sell my Blur and get Strider PT. I realized that the smaller blades are enough for my needs (but I still DO want Esee-3F :D). And Strider PT´s blade lenght is almost the same as Izula´s, that´s fine... I had ZT0350 as well but I didn´t like the curved blade, you know that "double S". It´s strong and reliable knife, but even it´s smaller then his ZT30x brothers, I wasn´t pleased EDCing it. Too rough G10, just average cutting abilities, I fought with sharpening etc., so I sold it. But overall quality of ZT knives for the money you pay for them is superb.

Did you try ceramic rods for sharpening the ZT? I use a large rod (approx. 1" dia. & 10" long) to start and then finish with a smaller (approx. 3/8" dia.) rod that has a very smooth surface. This combination works well for me on all of my curved blades. Trying to sharpen curved blades on a flat stone can be a real pain in the butt.

I have used and or own a folder from all brands. But the ESEE folder is by far the one I am looking forward to the most. Cannot wait

right now, its les george knives. ive had a small rockeye, a large rockeye and a hydra. they are beyond smooth and beautiful.

Yes, I did. I have the custom made ceramic rods at home along with ceramic flat "stones" of more sizes and grits, everything works perfectly. The problem was just in my hands :). I´m used to sharpen my knives by free hand on flat stones... I was able to put very good edge on my ZT350 using the rods, but the sharpening was... yeah, don´t know how to describe. It just pis*ed me off :D!

I sold ZT350 cause it was too bulky for me. Plus not as good slicer as I was expecting and after few days I realized, I don´t like flippers on knives. Yes, you can open your knife easily and very quickly, but the flipper hampers me during cutting, especially on flat base.

The lowly Spyderco Endura for me ever since about 1992. I have never had one fail in any way. The current full height grind models are my favorite. As far as outdoor work goes....They make fuzz sticks great and the back is so square sparks fly off my ferro rod. I do like how the Spyderco has an unsharpened portion on the blade so in case it would close accidentally you won't get cut. I always wish Benchmade would do this as I have seen several liner locks (CRKT and Gerber) fail causing stitches. I would like it if ESEE had this as well. I also like the planned scale color changeability.

No one else here got offended or felt the need to complain except you. I stated several times my not wanting to offend and that it was my opinion. Please don't clog the thread with this type of messages PM me if you have a problem or contact a moderator if you think my post should be deleted . I hope we can all be adults here. This is a simple discussion about knives no one has slighted you or desecrated your honor. Not everyone likes assisted opening

I agree! If the ESEE does have assisted opening I hope it is similar to the system in the ZT350 that can easily be deactivated and/or reactivated.

others seem to agree. Please lets keep it civil.

your funny, not trying to be 'uncivil' just looking for factual answer. thanks for yuor opinion.

Normal price range, spyderco for sure...otherwise Rick Hinderer. My XM-18 is my EDC...

I use Spyderco almost exclusively for a locking folder, but I also love traditional slipjoints from GEC and Case, and SAKs.

I am interested in the ESEE folder because the Izula is so awesome, but I'm not sure if I will warm up to thumb-studs instead of the spyder-hole.

Never baton a folder. I don't care how good the lock is you are changing so many geometric fits and loosening shit you don't even know about when you do. Folders, when built right, are highly precise tools.

Too many microbrews. I had never batoned with a folder. I did take precautions, gloves my clear saftey glasses from my bike, and did it far off from the party. Should have metioned that I guess. I was merely stating it took the abuse and earned its place in my pocket as my everyday folder.

Still Jeff you are right. Part of why I had it sent back in to be sharpened, make sure it got the nod from BM.

The Bechmade Griptilians and the redesigned Doug Ritter Griptilian with the axis lock are amazing folders for survival since many people do not always carry a fixed blade. I have tested my full size griptilian batoning and carving and it held up well without failure. I would trust it with my life in the short term survival situation. I think the ESEE folders will be no different, can't wait.

till the Izula folder comes out hurry up!

That right there is my favorite folding survival knife of all time. Dout Ritter knows if you do not have it on you all the time it isn't really your survival knife.

I just can't carry anything other than a small CS folder in my pocket. Right now it's a trail guide. Does everything I need a pocket knife to do.

As of lately I've been dabbling in traditional knives and slip joints for me I feel the best folder for me is a toss up between the buck 301 and the case sodbuster JR. in cv.

Chris Reeve and Spyderco all the way

Have a Small Insingo and Bloodwood Mnandi.

My Spydies are a Ladybug, spyderedge Del 4 and a Stretch on the way.

My finace has a Ladybug on her keychain and EDCs a purple FFG Delica.

Had plenty of Small Griptilians, but I always found the handle a bit fat for pocket carry and nowhere near as ergonomic as the Spydercos.... love 154cm though...

I have a very deep attraction to my Burger EXK-1. I have allot of folders but the Burger is by far my favorite. I saw a pick of the Izula folder and it was love at first sight. I know it will be a wait for the ESEE folder but thats ok...
