Favorite camp knives?

I Been leaning heavily twards the standard Ratmandu as its half the price of a second hand INFI version, but the corrosion resistance of INFI keeps drawing me back its way. Any other suggestions?

Strip an RMD, use it for kitchen prep to put a patina on it, and it should be fine. Folks have been using carbon steel blades for a long time.

Infidu / ratmandu for sure are good camp blades. I have a Infidu paired with a patriot leather sheath that would work really well. However it hasn't broke into the game time line up just yet.

SOB is perfect for camp chores. It's really a dressed up kephart. Really all of the badger blades. I'll be trying out the BATAC as soon as it hits. Great dimensions on that one.

One knife I can't believe no one has mentioned is far and away my favorites busse ever made is the Hog Muk. It's the most practical busse I have.

A hog Muk is a piece of genius. It's a proven, time tested design and the Ergos are great. Infi steel and it's not 10x too thick like a lot of busse knives.

In Infidu is good but it's no hog Muk.

How small do you want? My son uses a CABSLE, works great for kitchen duty or splitting smaller (2"-3") branches. I use my Sarsquatch.

I almost bought one when they were offered because they looked like the quintessential "bushcraft" knife but that brick pattern in the handles ruined that one for me.

Me... I like the Sarsquatch. :D

But if you prefer a 5" blade, any of the mandu variations are great!

.

Busse badger or scrapper 5 would be my preferences. I often carry my rodent solution for a 3.5 blade.

A sarsquatch is definitely an awesome choice! They are not easy to find though.

I wonder how SR101reacts to bead blasting. Hmmmmmm.

I wouldn't recommend bead blasing SR101 unless you really plan to be diligent in keeping the knife well oiled.

Fatty Satin Ash1. My Kukari.. but I'm thinking the WTF will be taking its place as big chopper... :) hope it works as well as I imagine it working!!

I agree...bead blast, double-cut, and the like INCREASES surface area for rust/crud accumulation and DECREASES ease of maintenance, in my experience. :(

It'll be interesting to see how the WTH handles camp chores

Me too, I am very impatiently waiting for the card to get dinged for that one.

Nobody has said BossJack yet?
I've had a Ratmandu and still have an InfiDu but as great as it is they just didn't win top spot. It didn't lose to performance or ergo's but just something weird looking about the clip point to me, if a spear point/drop point ever hits the exchange I'll be all over it. Until then may I suggest the choil less BossJack. It's not too heavy and it has plenty of blade.

always wanted a camp tramp! The 771 is as close as I'll probably ever get..

I've always wanted a camp tramp, too. The 711 is a dang fine blade, though.

The drop point models were all custom shop, not many of them in the wild.

Infidu/Swatmandu is perfect.

Coupled with a big chopper or a nice hatchet, you have all your camp needs covered.
