Favorite camp knives?

It's hard to see where one could go wrong with a B4/B8 combo! Very nice!

If it was only going to be 1 Knife, I think the Basic 8 would be great, personally I like the NMSFNO-big enough to do camp chores, but is still compact enough to process food with comfortably-I also like the SFNO, Lot's of great choices here-I personally prefer a non coated blade (Satin, competition finish, or stripped) for processing food, but to each his own

I saw that another guy posted one but not much has been said about the hellrazor.
Do you guys think it'd make a good camp knife?

I'm assuming it would. Handle looks comfortable, long enough for camp chores short of chopping down trees, no ridiculous sharp edges other than the cutting edge, and I like a spear point blade. The harpoon style has grown on me over the years and I have to admit that the HR is one of the nicest, maybe the nicest looking one that I've seen.

I don't know how thick the stock is. I'm wondering if it's one of those knives that's just a bit too thick for its length to make a good slicer/camp knife.

If one shows up for sale with the cbt I may have to grab it.

Yes if one shows up with CBT, we all will have to buy it-The Hell Razor in my opinion would make an adequate camp knife, just guess it all depends on how much chopping you are going to be doing with it-I believe the thickness of the Hell Razor is something like .187-Good luck

The Hell Razor is a fantastic knife option ---- and given its overall length and weight of 16 oz ---- it certainly can chop trees. It's actually an excellent design and very well balanced. I prefer the Saber grind Hell Razor Terror Monkey over the CBT version --- but that's just me

I still think the HHFSH is a perfect knife. As much as I love the NMSFNO --- I give it the edge.

I was thinking a five inch blade, give or take a half inch.

Here is link to picture of some 5 inchers from the kin. From the top:
SAR5, Scrapper 5 LE minus thumb ramp (Scrapper 5 CG would grind off just as easy), Basic 5, Bog Dog in D2, Boss Street proto IIRC

If you look on RokJok Photobucket albums (Knives and Buy-Sell) there are other pics of Bussekin blades in this size range, as well as bigger & smaller.

Another option is the Yard's 511. It is the top knife in linked pic from Aussie BF user Nighthawk_650.

Don't forget mud/safety mutt, SOB, B4, Vex & HG55 all in that range too.

Kinda digging the 511 and the Mutts. I see that some of the mutts have a straight spine all the way out to the tip and some have mire of a drop point. I like the drop point. Is there a designation difference between the two different styles or is it the same knife that changed a little during its pruduction run?

Hah! That's actually me. :D

Here's a more recent pic with some great options. The 511 is a great knife if you can find one. Since this pic was taken I've added an SOB as well which is another great option for the OP.

From the top: Desert Dogfather, SYKCO 711, TGLB, BG-ASH1, Rodent 6, and left to right, RMD x2, Scrapper 5LE, SYKCO 511

I found the RMD to have a very small handle with little or no options for a change in grips. The SAR 6 is my new favorite. I love the large/ long grips for multiple gripping options........and it looks almost too good to use.

Oh, it's not too good to use.:)

I see a lot of awesome options/suggestions in this thread. The SAR 6, Hell Razor, RMD, SFNO, NMSFNO.... and the list goes on. I really think, if you have a specific blade size in mind, you can go with just about an busse or kin in that size group. Howerever, as much as I like the TG I'm not a fan of the of double guards on camp knives. I like using the choil to choke up on the blade.

That being said the Tank Buster is another great option if you want a compact yet stout blade that can handle just about anything. It's currently one of my go-to blades along with the InfiDu (RMD INFI) and NMSFNO... and maybe a few others ;)

Thats one sexy tankbuster!!

:thumbup:yup...looks like little sunbursts around the handle tubes:thumbup:

great photography...it's impossible for me to capture the grain of a satin custom shop masterpiece like this with my pathetic non-skills

thanks for sharing, kniferMan

The Basic 8 has really stole my hart in the camp knife section. Easy to carry, chops big, batons well, worked for all the basic camp chores that I run into, and is super comfy. Just love it.

I regret letting mine go,, but at the time I was looking for a larger chopper.
I did like how nimble it was for an 8" knife, later down the road I'm sure I'll snag another.
