Favorite camp knives?

I've always wanted a camp tramp, too. The 711 is a dang fine blade, though.

The drop point models were all custom shop, not many of them in the wild.

Ok, I'll take it!

That one is on my list with the TGLB, TTKZ, Gladius, and undecided large chopper.

INFImandu, SWATmandu, or even RMD would be, and is, my choice. Any one of the three, naked, would be fine. I'm with Resinguy: carbon steel has been used thousands of years. It will take a patina, but it will be fine as long as you're using it. I grew up with carbon steel pocket knives as a kid. I never had one rust on me, and I was like any other kid: I didn't take the best care of their blades.

Infi/Swatmandu is a great choice, especially with liners to beef up the handle a bit.

Also really like the Boss Street (SCABS, .22" hollow, etc.) for smaller tasks.

Based on the theory that a little larger knife can do most of what a small knife does, the slightly unheralded SJTAC is fantastic. As much as I like the ASH-1, the SJTAC's blade length is similar and the blade is slightly less tall, increasing maneuverability.

The name says it all. Camp Tramp

Not quite camping season for me yet but the Camp Tramp did a fine job assisting me with some exposed pine tree roots today.

Cutting, carving, chopping, batoning , prying, hammering, cleaning fish and game, and more. This knife can do it all and is lightweight and easy to pack too.

Just an amazing tool.

I would rather see an INFI HRLM than RMD personally, just open up the choil to be useable or else do away with it on the INFI version. But really in that size, you won't notice a performance difference between the two steels anyway aside from a patina on bare SR101. The ASH/TRASH1 size is pretty popular too.

The one thing I have noticed a bout the res handled knives that my buddy has is that by the time you add up the finger guard in the res, the finger guard in the steel, then the choil, it puts the usable edge so far out that you almost have to use it.

Me too, I am very impatiently waiting for the card to get dinged for that one.

Nobody has said BossJack yet?
I've had a Ratmandu and still have an InfiDu but as great as it is they just didn't win top spot. It didn't lose to performance or ergo's but just something weird looking about the clip point to me, if a spear point/drop point ever hits the exchange I'll be all over it. Until then may I suggest the choil less BossJack. It's not too heavy and it has plenty of blade.
The Boss Jack is a great, versatile blade.

Edited to add that the BossJack quote from above was supposed to go here- no idea why that didn't work this time.

I love mine. It is a great classically styled blade that works well at everything that I've used it for.

The handle of the Rat/InfiMandu, the HRLM, and the Beefmandu do kill it but I haven't found a flaw in the BossJack handle in using it- just that the handle of the others mentioned does fit my hand better.

I've seen posts from a lot of you in the Survive section and also about ESEE knives and they obviously have a large following and have become respected designs for woods use; the BossJack has a very similarly designed classic blade shape, excellent do it all knife.

This was going to be my camp knife this year, spent the last few months taking it to the 24 Grit Brick occasionally reshaping the thing to my preference... I am sure it's headed to a loving home... :)

Remember that boss jack video someone did for an advertising assignment for a class awhile back? That was a cool video. I've been wanting one ever since.

Knob Creek Hell Razor, .20 or so stock w/ magnum g10 handles... Stripped and dirty.

Ash-1, perfect size, processes food and is big enough to chop small wood needed to make a fire-.220 Thickness

I'd like to throw in another vote for boss jack. Love my proto. But I just scored SOB, so it might be my go to beater from now on. I had BATAK, it was my first Busse knife. The handle was a bit to big for my liking. It was very comfortable, but the felt bigger then it was.

I like the SR101 in my rat warden which is a great camp companion knife, but on my sniper hawk, the blade chipped from accidentally hitting a glass cup (did't crack the cup, didn't even tip the cup over, but have a big chip on the blade), so I'm a bit more INFI skewed.

Great picture. Some day I'm going to get it together and land an FBM. Love that CG stripper you've got on top there man.

Thanks, but the top one is actually a rare Busse Competition Finish job from 2010, the bottom two were stripped by me. ;)
