Favorite Large Folders?

Hi guys,

I'm always trying to add larger folders (with blades of at least 4") to my collection, and although I own a few I thought I'd ask around to see what your favorite large folders are. I haven't found any assisted openers this large but if they're are any I'd be interested particularly in those, but any large folder models you like would be great.
The first large folder that I EDC'd was a Gerber FS II, purchased in 1978. In those Dark Age days, choices for easily-concealed lockblade folding knives were quite limited. Actually, I gave the money to a friend to purchase it for me, since I was only 17 at the time. I carried it (completely concealed) through all four years of college (1978-1982) and my first 6 years of employment after graduation. Ironically, I ended up giving it to the same friend who did the "straw purchase" for me ten years earlier, in order to settle a small debt! :D My EDC of choice for the past 12 years has been the 4" clip-point, plain-edged Cold Steel "Voyager" lockblade folder. I am a big Cold Steel fan, but now and again, I miss that FS II!

My largest is my Ontario Hossom Retribution 1. 4 5/8" long X .200 thick blade. Ten plus inches overall.

I like the 5.5" CUDA MAXX in Talonite and the 7" MADD MAXX in CPM S-90-V. The former is a factory limited edition, and the latter is a custom.

This is awesome, thanks guys! I thought I knew of a lot of larger folders out there but I haven't even heard of a lot of these.

I just got a Voyager not long ago and I like it a lot too, to the poster who carries it a lot. I am really tempted by the Rajah II (I have a Spartan) but it looks so huge to me. Would you guys who recommend it ever carry/pull it in public? I like its size but I already don't carry my Spartan around just because I'd know I'd feel uncomfortable if I wanted to use it out and about... any way to get over that? :D

I love Spyderco and I'd like to get a Military, but I think it has only a one-position clip, and I am a lefty and would like to carry it front-facing in the left pocket. :( I think the Police model might have more carry options though.

I'm also definitely interested in trying to pick up a used ZT on here if I can!! NIB is a bit pricey for me but if someone is willing to cut me a deal I've wanted one for a long time.

Thanks for all these recommendations, and if you Rajah II owners have any thoughts, please let me know. I do sometimes add knives just to the collection but I mostly buy a knife that I think looks great and that I would like to carry, and that one looks so huge. ;) Thanks guys.

Not in any particular order: Just about any CS folder using the tri ad lock, especially the Holdout series. Flarethy folders, about as nice a handmade folder as you will find. Meyerco Catch Dog just an outstanding value imho, and for traditionalists look for the CASE Buffalo series lock backs. keepem sharp

the Spyderco Police 3 does have tip up and down for both left or right side carry. It is a very nice knife btw, and the blade is just a hair over 4 inches. I don't carry my Rajah II in public, mainly because in Mass there is a 4 inch limit, but also i don't have a need for a folder or fixed blade of that size for EDC. I'd also suggest looking at an Emerson CQC 8, i love mine and i end up carrying it alot.

Military and SMF are the two I still own in that category. And I have to add the Umnumzaan too

Gpknives.com has the paramilitary in Left handed edition.

My favorites (that I own) Hinderer XM-24, Spyderco Military. CS Recon-1, BM 710

The Pohl Force Alpha Two is quite a beast. I have the very similar predecessor Alpha One and it makes my ZT 0200 almost seem gentle:

and, a lot of other ones, like the BM Onslaught, BM806D2 (and it's variations), Spyderco Police...

Four of my favorite large folders
1 Pair of Benchmade Deja-Voos
2 Spyderco large Lum Chineese
3 Cold Steel Scimitar

Boker A-F FOLDER?! Can you give me a link to that?

The one I have is the one that someone reviewed here:

They have a newer version that also has the aluminum handles and S60V steel, but the one I have is the only one that can be waved open with a tip-up carry option.

I love the look of the Pohl Alpha II, can you open it one-handed? I don't see any thumb devices or flippers.
