Favorite Mistress

I love the SHBM. It can be used for camp chores and food prep as long as it is sharpened properly. I do not feel quite the same about the CGFBM and larger. Those blades are a bit heavy for finer tasks. Granted, paper thin slicing of garlic and other fine slicing needs are not as realistic for the 10 inch blades. But then again, I am not a camper concerned with gourmet style prep when I am backpacking. The light-weight, yet heavy duty SHBM is a wonder and blessing for those able to own one.

I only have a BWM, but I would like an FFBM with a NM treatment. I know others don't but I like the spine bumps.

Favorite Mistress?

CGFBM, just because it strikes the balance between heavy chopper, capability of doing lighter work, and ease of carry. Not the best at any of the above, but can do them all.

My FBMLE cause she's Damn Sexy!!! Nuff Said!:D

I would never use a mistress as a single "do all knife" because for me there are knives out there with a better balance of features. I want my mistresses to CHOP! That being said, the BWM sounds like a pretty good compromise of power vs. general prowess.

I don't own this one ... not even sure if it exists ... but I would say my favourite would be an asymetrical ground SHBM with slotted bolts to enable the grip to be removed and ideally with a clip point ... were they done like that?

Anyone got a pic of an asymetrical grind SHBM??

I'm curious, and no disrespect - just honest curiosity... why do removable grips appeal to you? Is it aesthetic or functional?

The 2007 Special Edition FBM (a variant of the FBM LE) is marvellous. The weight and balance is just right ... and, if you're brave enough to use it, it's a great knife all around (solid chopper!).

The original SHBM has a unique combination of comfort, balance, and style that makes it "THE" original classic. I'll always have at least one of them.

That's about as close as I can come to an answer. Of course, I haven't had a chance to really inspect a BWM yet.

I'm chicken. Got 2 of 'em and have not been able to bring myself to take either one out and use it... :o I may have to though, as it seems that you & Guyon still use 'em and continue to rave about 'em :)

The MO in MOFBM is Military Overrun
I dont know all the differences between it and
a standard CG FBM,but the spine is polished and it
has tiger scales.
(my particular knife has really great looking scales, very close to snakeskin!)
Its just a really really nice looking knife.

all those other people with their choices for the best lookin BM

oh, haha.

Military Overrun.

thanks. ;)

Back when Jeremy Horton still did modifications, someone had him take an FFBM down to .270" similar to the FBM SE '07. That's another possibility if you can find a maker who'd do the mods.

That was me!!!!;) But for some reason, that knife was still pretty heavy.
I took it on a outing and wasnt crazy about it.

Actually, the saber ground FBM in my pic is .270 thick(second from right) and feels amazing in the hand, though I havent been able to bring myself to use it. Thats funny too because I just took my spankin new SHBM out yesterday and beat the snot out of it.:thumbup:

My CG is my favorite as far as "looks and character"
I feel the BWCG will see more use because of the lighter weight.
...but I just couldn't resist, and ordered an LE. it's a "gentleman's BM" :foot:

...being said, most probably the CGFBM would be my "desert island" knife.

^^^^This one:D:thumbup:

I love the chopper BM's that I own but as much as the idea of carrying a small knife, medium knife and ten pound BM chopper is appealing I like the BWMLE alternative:)

Now, to get my second one for using. The first one is just so nice I might make a display case for it. It is that perfect to me.:p

Why would you do that? It's so much money for FFBM then you have to do the work or have to pay someone do that for you when you can just buy a FBM that is .27" and flat ground. A great man once told me that it was one of the best choppers of courses I could never bring myself to actually use one, so I'll take his word for it=)

I would have to give my vote to the BMe. Of course the BM's I have used are as follows: SHBM, BMe, FFBM, CGFBM, and a NMFBM LE.

I love the edge on the BMe, bites nice and deep, and in my opinion it is the best handle design. I am looking forward to getting my paws on a BWM as the handle looks superb!!

I blame Guyon.:)

He kept making claims and, eventually, I had to check it out.

He was right.:D:thumbup:

Doby ... you can't say stuff like that without immediately posting a review somewhere ... with pics!!

And wasn't somebody demanding a review of the BWM v. user SHBM??

You should try out a ZTBM. I think you would like it ... a lot.:D

The 2007SE FBM is not flat ground, it is sabre ground.

Those knives run 750.00-850.00. I paid 450.00 for my ffbm and paid Jeremy 90.00 for the mod. You do the math.

I didnt take any pics, but I did have alot of fun.

Besides, the review was wanted for a BWMLE and a SHBM. I dont have the LE.:(

But I do have a user SHBM now.:D
