Favorite Mistress

I don't own this one ... not even sure if it exists ... but I would say my favourite would be an asymetrical ground SHBM with slotted bolts to enable the grip to be removed and ideally with a clip point ... were they done like that?

Anyone got a pic of an asymetrical grind SHBM??

Here ya go... the '98 ASG Article SHBM. :D
A convex, asymmetrical edge.

Oh... and I still can't figure out which is my favorite Doby. :o

I love ALL my mistresses! :D :D

the only mistress that matters is mine :) .

I really have no ground to stand on and boast it above another. But SnakeDoc agrees, BM-e, that ergo handle is the one.

360 is a close friend. We have spent many days in the woods and use our knives in a similar way. I agree 100% with his post. I have owned and used the FBMLE FFBM and CGFBM and tried out a friend's SHBM and while I haven't used my BWMLE yet it is exactly what I have been hoping for. I would put the CGBWM pretty close in the running because it's close and a bargain. In a camp/woods knife I want to be able to chop but I don't need to carry around the ability to make a log house on my hip. I find myself limbing and batoning a lot. In a place rich in resources like the Northwest you can chose not to chop larger logs most of the time.

Will -- batoning the BIG stuff. I've stopped chopping large diameter logs in favor of using a saw to section them out. I still chop the medium and smaller stuff. But I love batoning. And while it is definitely possible to baton logs larger than your blade, it's simply braggard to split the larger stuff straight across. :D

Doby -- BWLE

I can't believe that more people aren't going ooh and aah over this thing. Perfect thickness IMO for effective, but effortless chopping with none of the Busse-pinky. Nice strong tip for prying and batoning. Sooo comfortable.

360 alludes to this too but I have to reiterate it... Not enough has been written about the BWMLE, especially in regard to it's fit and finish. For those who have been saying it's a thicker shinier sabre BWM haven't seen/held one. It is a work of art. This is the thinnest behind the edge and sharpest Busse I have held. The entire perimeter has been given a subtle 45 degree bevel or whatever. The care that went into finishing it makes this 10" knife as close to jewelry as you can get LOL

I'm curious, and no disrespect - just honest curiosity... why do removable grips appeal to you? Is it aesthetic or functional?

If you can remove the grips you can properly clean and "sterilise" the knife...
and you can easily replace the grips if need be...

Or make your own custom grips... oversized grips which shroud the spine and rear pommel are useful in extreme cold climates ... if I had a ASG SHBM pictured by Lil Foo I could get a set of grips made up from Res C ....simply recess the bolts and add Res C plugs ....no cold weld issues and you have a much more comfortable handle for chopping ... a sort of SHBM/Basic hybrid ...

They would also eliminate glare from the knife when sheathed .... and simply bead blast the blade ....

IMO Jerry's earlier work was in many ways his best ....

Lil Foo ....many thanks for those pic's ....:cool: Is that one yours?

Heck, I'd be glad to give Skunk crap . . . if he was ever around.

Where are all the old HOGS? I know they're still alive . . . somewhere.

been busy, as usual. Have a bit of a break.

Skunkster hasn't been around?
