Almost forgot... Kabar the good old american bad a$$... if I could manage to figure out how to sharpen a non scandi or non convex edge..it'd really be a do all knife...I found that if I take a leuku grip around the Pommel I can use it effectively to chop and limb..it takes a baton well although it chews it up...and with the rear guard removed you can actually get a bit of control over the blade...

Funny how I was playing around with one of my RAT-3 knives when I stumbled upon this thread. Yeah the handle is on the small side (Ontario version) but it's a stout and useful knife. I've got a bunch of mileage out of them and they'll accompany me on many more trips outdoors.

All things considered I would say the Mora although it's hard to pick my favorite. I convexed a 740 for deer season this year and it worked just perfect. I field dressed and skinned three and one half deer with it and it was still shaving sharp even though I also cut the leg joints on one deer with it as well. When we got done, it took about two minutes with a little piece of 3000 grit paper to have it razor sharp again. Best of all, it weighs a few Oz., and cost 9.00. In truth I would never really NEED any other brand of knife.

I love Buck and Bark Rivers too now that I can maintain the convex edge.

Good news about that convexed blade of yours. Also, congrats on bagging the deer. When I get my 1x42 grinder I'm planning on doing the same to one (or more) of my Mora blades.

Today it's the Dozier Professional Guides knife with orange G-10 that showed up today. Man this thing is sweet! I've always had a thing for Dozier's and this may be my favorite so far. Fits my hand like it was born there. Bob's drop loop Kydex sheaths are incredible too, and I've got lot's of Kydex.

I also have a thing for my Fox River ,I Keep it in my Tackle box w/matching firesteel. Luv'n the A2 Steel

I haven't had the pleasure of owning many good knives, but for me it's a toss up between my RC4, RC3, and KABAR Heavy Bowie...one in each "size class", if you will.

moras are really hard to beat for starit up function, but i am going to go with my equally functional and much better looking helle brakar for overall favorite production FB. but i dont own any faellknivens or bark rivers or RCs or kellams.

The Scrapyard DMDC is a great size for an all-around knife. That thing just continues to impress me each time I use it...

the reason I posted this thread is generally we all do about the same thing but all feel comfortable using different knife brands , not knocking one brand over another it just interest me how we all see knives differently and what we can afford/make do with for our bushcraft/survival/daily needs....

Does a 14" Tramotina Bolo machete count as a fixed blade?

If not, then I'll go with my RC-3.

I think I have taken more pictures of it than I have of my kids.

Yeah, so far mine hasn't been bothered me too much, but I am curious to handle one without a thumb ramp; thanks for the pic of the thumb-ramp-less Bravo-1 gunknifenut, been wanting to see one of those :thumbup:
