Favorite Quotes from non-knife people.

Why do you need that, or why do you need to carry that, both of which are only said because I have had to take the knife out to cut something which should be VERY OBVIOUS by this point to all within the immediate vicinity of me. Most of the time it is to cut something for them, the problem is people don't think especially for themselves anymore. Instead they just react most of the time its an emotional knee jerk reaction that goes with whatever the pop culture or internet view point is concerning the topic of the reaction. Once I point out that I carry it to cut stuff and that I'm using it to cut something for them, they kinda of have that light bulb moment of, Oh yeah. Then they kind of feel awkward you can see it by the look on their face.

After reading all 8 pages of this, ya'll should realize and also should know by now that educated professional people can be and for the most part are ignorant. Educated has nothing to do with ignorance and bigotry these days although it should. The days where education instilled some level of common sense through logic, rational though, analysis and the holy grail of critical thinking have ended and are nothing more than a rapidly fading haze in the rear view of United States history my friends. Sucks, but that is just the way it is. In fact I find that the educated among us are the ones teaching things like rely on others and not your self and knives are to be viewed as weapons not tools.

Funny thing is, do they eat with a fork and a weapon, and do they only use their knives to stab people? No they eat with a fork and a knife, and no chances are they use a knife everyday in the kitchen and around the house or at least several days a week throughout their entire life and never, not even once remotely thought about stabbing someone with it or actually doing so. Yet it is still a weapon and if someone has it outside of their home then they obviously must have intent, no make that intent with malice to use it as such, mainly against them.

Wish I could say its not so, but were in a rapid state of decline where common sense, logic and rational thought have gone by the wayside. The children are not being taught how to think, problem solve, deductive reasoning or self reliance but rather submission and how to be a good citizen of the world with focus on the community and the overall collective. You don't have to know what to do, your media personality, internet and authorities will tell you how to think, act and what your should and should not do. After all they know what is best for you. Ignorance is a VERY EXPENSIVE commodity, the price of which we really can no longer afford. Again, its people simply not thinking but merely having an emotional knee jerk reaction. This is happening to our society through conditioning by the media and government.

I fully agree, particularly with you last paragraph, this applies all over the world, not only in the U.S. of A.
I am laughed at when I point out how people can no longer think and act for themselves any more.

I'm only 19 and u aggree with you for the most part about no longer thinking and acting for ourselves. So many people I meet are the same way. I am not because I make it a point not to.....

Heck, the only time I see people my age or younger who know how to problem solve are those that were born with a talent for it or those who were lucky enough to be taught (few and far between

They are now teaching problem solving in college to engineers now.....I wish we got it before now.

I was lucky enough to be taught somewhat at a young age since my mother is/was an engineer

And to keep the thread on topic, I had my roommate ask
Me what I was carrying, I pulled out my ZT0350, a case cheetah, and my leatherman PST

He responded with "you have a problem and only 2 hands"

I laughed and said yes, that way I can have a multitouch when I need it, a non-scary looking knife when I need it, and the bombproof one whenever i need a knife and I'm not in a place where I care about scaring people

I carry my esee 5 everywhere, and everyone says one of three things: "where did you get it?", "is that legal?" And "they're not gonna let you take that in there". Not once has it ever been "hey you can't have that in here". People are dumb.

Try going into a bar with that.

Person: why do you carry a weapon?
Me: Why do you have a car?
Person: To drive places
Me: not to run things over?
Person: no its different
Me: How? A knife is a tool to cut things and a car is a tool to transport things, just because you can use something to kill doesn't automatically make it a weapon. If I start stabbing people THEN you can call it a weapon.

re: the borax thing...
i believe that when they forge blades, they sprinkle borax on it to remove impurities, like when they're laminating different steels.

highly entertaining thread.

q: why do you have a knife?
a: because i'm cool... you wouldn't get it.

Sheeple: "Why do you keep your knife so sharp?"

Me: I take their pencil and with my knife cut the entire point off and tell them to get back to work.

Sheeple: "but now I can't write, can I use your sharpener?"

Me: I take the same knife an put a point back on their pencil and tell them to get back to work.

I carried a 12" OAL bowie to a karaoke night at applebees. No one besides my friends even knew I had it.

very nice, I would have loved to see some reactions to you having that.....though the cops probably would have been called and it all around wouldn't have been worth it.

out of curiosity, how were you carrying it to hid a 12" OAL?

also, I have startled some people with concealed blades before

I had put a piece of para cord in a figure 8, with my BK14 on one side handle down, put it on like a back pack under my shirt and had an under the shoulder draw on it. He asked to borrow a knife and I pulled it....first thing out of his mouth "wait, you had that this whole time!?!?"

I laughed

Oh, I really do like this reasoning. Even obtuse people should see the logic here. I can't wait to use it.

Contary to all the stories listed here it is always a pleasure to be around people who understand knives. I belong to the American Legion Riders and a group of us went over to a nearly American Legion Post for a BBQ. The meat was cooked badly and it was impossible to cut with the plastic knives they handed out. Nearly everyone in the room pulled out either folders or fixed blades and commenced eating. No silly questions or angst, and everyone went away with a smile on their face and a knife in there pocket or on their belt.

After I posted a picture of my EDC on facebook with my ZT 0300 my friend commented

I bet my knife is better than yours, look at the album "my Knives" and go to the last one.

I did, the album was full of fantasy knives but this is the picture he was referring to.

My reply, "What kind of steel is that?"

Be care full! Don't cut yourself!

Most ofter heard from my wife. And I don't think I've ever cut myself in her presence.

Me: "you should get a knife. even a cheap one, just to have it with you"
Them: "Naaah. I never need it. I wont use it"
Me: "Can't use what you dont own"
Then they ask to use mine.

Anhydrous borax can be used as flux when forge welding. That's what you're thinking of. ;)

The knife was a Blackjack M14. I was batoning firewood in the backyard, then friends popped in to see if I would go with them and I didn't feel like changing (Tshirt and Jeans). I did put on a sweatshirt though, because it was getting dark so only 4 inches or so of sheath showed and I never pulled it out. In my state there are zero laws on knives, Arizona rules.

that explains it.

the way you first said it, I though you had it concealed.....(couldnt figure out how you were doing that, unless you were using a dundee style rig)
