Favorite Spyderco

Many thanks for all the input! Should be receiving my Manix2 XL tomorrow. $130 on KC seemed like a really good price point for a large folder in S30V G10 setup. The Gayle Bradley looks amazing in carbon fiber as well. Ultimately in deciding between the military and the Manix I just found the blade style of the Manix slightly more appealing. The sage also looks really great, and the dragonfly has moved to the top of my small folder list.
Will post some pics upon receipt of my new blade

Congrats, enjoy, and prepare to embark on a new addiction. I've got most of the knives already mentioned. Though I haven't carried it much, I agree the Gayle Bradley is a very nice piece to behold.

I have to say my current favorite (and in my pocket) is the new Domino. It is nearly perfection, IMO. Titanium, carbon fiber, frame-lock, CTS-XHP steel, and a flipper blade.... Just awesome. It really doesn't get better.

In the "beefy" category, the Manix 2 is built like a tank.

The Paramilitary 2 is hard to beat as an all-around knife. The same is true for the Sage 1 / Sage 2.

On the more "gentlemanly" side, the Caly 3 (my first Spydie) is really, really nice.

I really like'em all. Have fun!

Caly 3 was my first Spyderco like Racer88. I am up to around 30-31 now and the pace of aquisition seems to be accelerating. Seems like all the ones mentioned previously are my favorites as well. OP definately got a good one to start. I have an original large and small Manix as well as several Manix 2(M-4 and S90)and they are great knives - very high on the stout meter. You will have to look at a Military for your next purchase. Or and Endura(ffg ZPD189!). Stretch. Caly 3.5. The list goes on and on.

I got my Caly 3 in 2010. I'm up to about 50 Spydies now. Though I own a couple of Militaries, I'm not a big fan of the model. One reason is the tip-down orientation. But, I get why they are popular.

There is a rock lobster under the canadian classifieds in your price range, a sweet vintage blade in vg10

Want to hear something disgusting? I have never owned a Spyderco blade. Whew! Feels good to finally get that off my chest.
Honestly, I have been a bit turned off by Zytel scales; but I'm over it. This purchase is waaaaay overdue. Looking for a folder, larger is better, but size isn't everything or so I'm told; and I'm not picky about on blade style on this particular purchase. (Looking in the $1-200 price range).

Help me decide churning sea of blade knowledge!

I see that you are in Oklahoma. Anywhere near OKC? If so, we could meet up somewhere and I could let you fondle a few of mine to figure out what you like. While I don't have everything that Spyderco makes, I have over a hundred.

Thx a lot for the offer friend. Good chance I'll be PMing you in the future! (I'm in uptown OKC)

It would seem we are on the same page as to what constitutes "perfection". That domino looks absolutely amazing! My preferred locking mechanism, my favorite scale materials, and though I haven't used it yet, the xhp sounds ridiculous. A bit above my price range for this purchase, but should they ever choose to manufacture a model with a blade length closer to 4", I might sell a kidney.

So, as I mentioned, I decided to go with the manix2 xl. Just the right size for my preference of edc, excellent price point for the materials, and as an added bonus, available with the dlc (which we military folks can be suckers for). I originally ordered the manix2 standard size from Amazon by mistake, so I took some photos side by side.
Having difficulty posting photos from my phone (url only?). But the primary differences are, of course, blade size, grind, and clip positioning. Unfortunately, my only small gripe is that the xl clip is not deep pocket, which I prefer. I'll figure out how to post my pics when I get on the pc.

Congrats on your Manix XL. I got one. It's a beast! I haven't had occasion to carry it. Other "big" Spydies would include the Szabo and the Superleaf. Both beasts! The Manix 2 is at the upper end size-wise for me to carry comfortably. Bear in mind that my "EDC" includes a number of other thing, and I've only got so much pocket space. :)

But, since I got the Domino, it refuses to allow another Spydie to "dance." I've been carrying it since it arrived.

My fav Spyderco is whatever is clipped to my pocket. If someone had a gun to my head and "you can only pick just one" I'd be like "pull the trigger"

It's usually one of these three:

Surprised at all the Domino love--with the fat, short blade and big handle, the thing my Domino does best is make me miss my Southard . . .

I'd like a Southard, But no left hand carry is a deal breaker for me.

As for the Domino, Thin wide blade = awesome slicer. A little short, but I've used my Dragonfly's for pretty much everything and rarely felt like I needed more blade. And the handle is Caly3 comfortable IMO. The thing is with the Domino it's comfortable even without using the choil.
