Feedback on my Tanto design

Thank you. Out of 100 or so comments between reddit, here and facebook, there were 2 people I couldn't please cause the knife wasn't "functional" enough for their needs but I'm ok with that. It's only a cause for concern when the majority don't like it.

Just remember that YOU asked what people thought...and you get all kinds of answers.
And I was wrong...its not “just another flipper knife”, its “another flipper knife made in China.”
Not only am I not interested in either knife, because i feel they look like art knives, which is fine, they just dont float my boat. Also not interested in made in China. Also, i will not be buying anything from your company because of your demeanor. You are very confident in your designs and dont have a problem taking jabs M marcinek .
I cant respect that, because even critics can become customers if you treat them with respect.
Im sure there are people who like and will buy those knives, they just arent for me. No hard feelings.
Keep ‘em Sharp

Also, did you answer the question about what function you designed this blade to excel at yet?

Taking Jabs? Asking me to go out and try knives isn't being respectful in the very least. And neither is visiting my website and leaving a F*** you in chat. I came here to ask people for feedback and if you say it's too thick for your preference or needs to be thinner blade stock or needs more belly then fine but asking about functionality and not being open to discussion is not helping me in any way. I've sent 2 protos to reviewers and engaged with plenty of people and accepted and implemented their feedback. That includes youtube reviewers like Slicey Dicey and LTK, sure the design may not appeal to some but In 5 months, this is the first time i've heard about this functionality specific design so pardon the way i've reacted. Since your comment about China made knives and the fact that everyone who does like the design are probably noobs in your opinion, you're what are referred to as "knife snobs" who probably can't and don't wish to have as customers anyways. Can't please all the people, all the time.

Thanks for your input though!

I’ve stated my opinion, and not attacked you. No assumptions on my part. I’ve been courteous and honest about the interactions I’ve seen on here.
I really hope that your Warantee is better than your actions.

In my opinion, thinking you can design knives without using them and without knowing that knife design is based on function is the disrespect.

Real knifemakers spend years using knives and honing their craft.

Thinking that knife design is merely making something sharp with a clever logo on it is both a gross misunderstanding and incredibly impertinent.

So is asking the opinions of the most knowledgeable knife users on the planet and having a snit where they didn't tell you what you expected to hear.

You wanted opinions? You got them. Be careful what you wish for.

I never claimed to be a knifemaker because I don't make the knives myself. I'm a designer who has started to design knives. If the forum has the most knowledgeable knife users and what you're saying is universal fact, there should be no comments supporting this design, right? You can be the MOST knowledgeable on the planet but your opinion is no more or less important than the next knife user and if the majority like the design either your requirements are two stringent or worse, completely wrong. I refuse to engage with you further since we've both said our peace. Chalk it up to a major difference in opinion. No hard feelings and I apologize for getting defensive.

I agree you didn't attack me but adding the bit about China was totally unnecessary and something I personally don't appreciate. Reate and WE among others make great knives so much so that even Chaves has a model produced by Reate. If you don't like China made knives, that's a personal preference that has nothing to do with my knife design and was information better kept to yourself imho.

Either way, I apologize and would like to move on if you don't mind. I didn't come here to start beef with you or anyone else for that matter.

Damneddesigns Damneddesigns I wouldn't sweat it anymore. You asked for info, you got some. I would take it and use it as you see fit. You are always going to find people that love to argue and crap on stuff on the internet.

This is exposure, if that's what you're after I understand that. But many many users/collectors who spend a LOT of money on knives of ALL types (functional, art, fun, wallhangers), have never even heard of Bladeforums or other knife forums. So just keep all of that in perspective, and do what you want. Keep on creating while others tell you it will never work. It worked for me.

It's never unnecessary to put down China.:)
I think this is just going to add to the tidal wave of knife design white noise coming out of China.

Thank you. I should never have engaged but sometimes I let my emotions get the better of me. Thanks for the note :)

If Chinese made knives are not for you, don't buy it. It's Ironic that people won't buy knives from china but probably everything from the clothes on their backs to the phones they're using to be keyboard warriors are made in China.

What M marcinek and I are saying is, yes, there are people who will buy that knife...but will they LOVE it when they use it. We arent trying to put down your knife design, we are stating our opinions to try to help you understand what makes a great knife, “Great!” So YOU will succeed.
Of course we want a new knife designer to succeed so we offered our help.
Some unnecessary background...I have and am a consultant to a few custom knife makers. I get to test proto’s and give feed back. So im not sure where the “knife snob” comment came from.
Im just not interested in knives made in China, because a lot ive owned just didnt float my boat, yes Reates and We’s too.
Im being as respectful as i can, just looking to help you out.
If M marcinek disagrees with me he will state i was wrong to include him.
Please take my posts constructively, as i am not trying to offend.
Both of our opinions matter. :)

I don't buy knives made in China. It's one of the only things I have a choice in where it's made.
Look how they're cheapening the entire hobby. Now all you need to be a "knifemaker" Is some decent CAD softwear and a contract with a Chinese manufacturer.

This place isn't called "Everyone Wins a Blade of the Year Trophy".

If you post a design and expect everyone to like it you'll be in for a surprise. If you double down and get snarky with folks who don't like it you come across with the maturity of the average 13 year old.

And then the folks who don't like it tend to tally ho and and really get harsh.

Sharp & Fiery

I am talking to you here Sharp & Fiery Sharp & Fiery , because I think our new friend is beyond listening to anything he feels is useless.
"China" doesn't really bother me. Why? I'm not gonna get into it. Too "Political".
Here's what bothers me, and as a consultant you may feel the same. We all have jobs and expertise that we have worked and studied for years to get. And when someone comes along and trivializes that expertise, I take offense. "Anybody can design a knife." "Anyone can teach reading." "I could read the news on TV." etc etc.
I understand that some people are obnoxious and think they are better at anything than anybody else. And some other people do not understand the complexities of doing a good job at something they are unfamiliar with.
Since we are on a knife discussion forum, I find it offensive when people think they can design a knife because "anybody can do it."
I respect the people who know how to design knives and enjoy their work too much to not be offended by it.

It would be great if our new friend learned and understood what goes into designing a knife. It would improve his work immensely.
But he seems to have stopped with "sharp with a logo" and anything beyond that is useless.

Maybe, ultimately, YouTube would be a friendlier venue for feedback.

But I wish him the best.

They'll be produced by Tuya knives out of
They're being manufactured by Tuya knives out of China

That's unfortunate . I have trouble spending money on quality ZT flippers made here in the USA. Have you ever made knives, pens, handles etc ? Or are you just a designer.

If I were interested in your knife I would be far more likely to spend $$$ on your design if it was made in the United States with quality materials versus paying for a design sent over to China.

I do own Chinese made products like my Spyderco Resilience or my 2 year old drill set from Harbor freight. But both products have an amazing value to cost ratio.

I probably couldn't afford to live the way I do if China didn't bring so many products 2 the market for the average consumer. However, when it comes to collectible items or tools such as knives , guns or watches I have the luxury to buy those items from where I please.

Best of luck either way. I am sure you will have success.
