Fehrman knives

Man I am glad this thread started as I am seeing more feedback on Fehrman's than I have in a long time on this forum. I can't wait to see pics and reviews from someone.

Very cool.

I had a Fehrman for a brief time. It was the Last Chance, and I have to agree with everyone that said this is one heck of a knife. It is the perfect size, it can cover a lot of bases if it's the only one you carry. And sharp! Man, I almost cut my fingers off the first time out of the sheath (partly because the factory kydex grips the knife pretty securely for my tastes). All that being said, I didn't like the shape of the grips. Too tall, and blocky. Some may like this feel (kinda reminded me of the RAT's from Ontario that I've held before), but not me. Besides, it was such a beautiful knife, I couldn't bear to use it. I'd stare at it a bunch, but in the end decided to sell it in favor of a RatManDu. It should arrive any day now. Anyhow, my .02...

I have a shadow scout and I think it is an excellent product! I especially like the
grind since it slices very well, most of these types of knives don't have the geometry to slice but this one does... extremely sharp and well made...

raindog101,

I am sure you had one of the first Fehrmans and their handel was a little blocky. They have since fixed that and their knives fit the contour of you hand much better.

bearcut,

Remember that Fehrmans use CPM-3V not S3-V. Sometimes Fehrman wil refer to their steel as F-3V because of their special proprietary heat treat, but it is not S3-V like the ebay poster says. Check out Fehrmans site as well. Please let us know how your new blade does.

I have the little Tru Hiker. Scary sharp, perfectly coated, really nice sheath. Plus: Eric Fehrman is a gentleman.:)

Need I say more?? :cool::thumbup:

They are great knives and Eric is a great guy to do business with.

Ron,

What are we looking at here, a First Strike, Last Chance, Peace Maker and Thru hiker atop one of their tomahawks? Which of these is your favorite utility user? Which has seen the most consistent action? Which are you looking to sell and how much? ; )

Ron,

That hawk is a K5 Tactical, it's not a Fehrman. Do a serch just like that and you'll find it.

Imgatman,
You got them all right. The Thru Hiker has gotten the most use as a neck knife. The others, Last Chance, and First Strike "take'm in the woods with ya".
So far the only edge work has been pass over a white wool buffing pad with green rouge....one pass on each side seems to be all they need.
The Peace Maker takes its turn as an EDC but its a long wait because I also EDC the Tridents, large Fehrmans, Extrema Ratios, Fallknivens, BRK&T's, Bob Doziers....and the list goes on.

Yeah, the hawk is the K5 Tacticle but I also have a CQCT and VTAC plus a few others.

Thanks for checking out the photos.

Ciao

So Ron, you never told me which one you wanted to sell me, nor how much. :D

I can't really see having a fixed blade EDC on my hip in my urban lifestyle. I carry my CQC-8, my Triumph (underarm) and a Leather Wave. However, I want a bigger fb for around the home, thus I'm thinking of the Last Chance. I'm assuming you'd give it the

Now I guess I'll start looking around the exchanges to see if I can find one used. Otherwise, I'll hafta send Fehrman my hard-earned ducats,

J

That is, of course, if I can't work out something for the NO E I'm currently drooling over...

Oops, thanks for pointing that out, that was a typo on my part.
I do realize it's CPM-3V, and it's not stainless.

Oh boy! I can't wait to get it!

I've been reading some more about various steels and heat treating. In addition, I've found several articles about S-3V in general and Fehrman knives in particular.

Bearcut corrected his self about CPM 3V.

By the way,
As I was reading about CPM knife steels, I found out that CPM named S30V for its 3% Vanadium content. Turns out, 4% Vanadium worked a lot better and they changed the amount, so technically it should be termed S40V.

Hello, my name is Bearcut, and I'm a steel-aholic.....

I have a First Strike and it is an exelent blade. Fit and finish is spot on and the steel holds a great edge.

I'MGatMan;
Sorry buddy, but the Fehrman knives are all keepers! Save up your schekles(sp?) and get yourself a new one. It will be sort of like the smell of leather in a new car:D

I am surprised we don't hear more about these knives. I pulled mine out of my knife box last night after reading this thread, it really is a beauty. One of these days I wouldn't mind picking up a shadow scout.

I have the Last Chance and its a great blade. Id put it up there in or near my big three in toughness.(Busse,Fallkniven,Mission) I havent done alot of testing of it but it seems to hold an edge pretty well too. Definately recommend one.

Here's my Last Chance:

You can see the 3V has taken a bit of color since I refinished it. Finally!

This really is one heck of a lot of knife in a small-ish package.
