Fiddleback Collections

Still one of the best BC ever! What's the material on the scandi Arete with orange liners?

That Bushcrafter is one of the best among all Fiddlebacks! Amazing!
Amazing collection of scandis....

Will, I like the new sub-set a lot with the bolster theme. It is fun to see your collection go through the refiner's fire and come out new and interesting.

Tod, I admire the way you sought out and embraced so many distinctive old school models and integrated them with some prime newer knives to create a very unique collection that is one of my favorites.

Well done to both of you!

Phil

Both the Aretes are natural canvas micarta with orange liners. They are incredible knives. Not my first choice in handle colors, but I have grown to really like the natural and orange together.

Agreed!!! I love that knife overall and that older color of shade tree emerald is by far my favorite synthetic handle material. We need to get Fod to make up some more of that stuff. If I could have a scandi arete, a scandi bushcraft karda, a 5/32 convex tapered kephart all in that older green shade tree.... I would be over the moon.

Thanks Phil! Collecting this fiddlebacks has been a very interesting process. First of all, I could have never imagined that I would own more than maybe five fiddlebacks... Well, you know how that went... I started out going mostly for function but with a strong pull to anything green. Then I got hooked on the scandis and the older spalting. At a certain point I realized that pinstripe color is huge for me. I like pinstripes that compliment and I don't like the ones that clash (I know that some of mine do clash).

I look at some of the collection and think man, I should have gone after some of the really beautiful wood knives. In the end though I think I prefer to use the synthetic handles and I will keep a knife that is not ideal if it works well and I can't find anything better. Some of the most incredible looking fiddlebacks I have owned I sold because I thought they might not get much use and I have held onto some that don't do much for me aesthetically, but they fill a niche. If you could custom order fiddlebacks, my collection would look much different and I would probably have fewer of them. Going after them has been a big part of the fun. In the times when they are hard to get and in high demand, it just makes it that much more sweet when you finally score one.

Great collection Tod. My first comment is of course about the Scandis. Standouts all of them.

The whole collection is awesome. Very diverse. Wood and Synthetic. Old School and New.

Good stuff.

Semi monthly update :D! if you haven't tried / camped / worked with sandblasted canvas micarta, you are missing out!

That is a great collection Will! It looks nice as a whole set. The four bolstered big ones are just incredible!!!!

Will,

You have refined your collection down to pure gold. I like the three sub-themes and all the tapered tangs. Very sweet!

Yes sir! I had an EDK with sandblasted black micarta and orange liners... Loved it. It hangs out on my desk. It has a really great grip and I like the muted color as a change.

EDIT: Just sold it... off to a good home.

Thanks Phil, I haven't had a ton of time for the forum lately, bit I'll need to provide some updates to the "specs" thread when schedule permits!

Had the camera out this morning goofing around, so I though I would include some updated pics:

Very nice & stunning collection. The burl BC is my favorite.

Those are awesome Phillip. If you get tired of the curly BC SR 3rd from the left I'll give it a good home. Funny, I've yet to have a BC or BC SR probably due to the fact that I look at yours so much most of the ones I can buy don't compare.

3rd one from the right? I couldn't tell if I would like that one when I bought it. Turns out it is one of my favorites too. It's the only one I have with thick orange liners which really contrasts well with the wood. It's also a 3/16 TT BC. Quite the railroad spike.

4th from the left.

Not a complete collection pic. A couple are at work, a couple are getting pants, and a couple new ones are on the way. But don't know when I'll get time to take pics again, so figured this would do for now.
