Very nice Baron! All sort of unique ones in that collection.

Solid Collection Baron- really like that antique hiking buddy. Do you like the feel of that bear paw? I'm asking you as I did Thurin because I may be interested in one. I like filling handles. how does it feel compared to the bush finger?

Thurin- is your esquire bead blasted?

D, yes, the Esquire is bead blasted. Nice and grippy.

RE: the Bear Paw, although I think you might have seen it already, maybe this mini review will give some additional info: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...w-Bushcrafter-size-comparison-and-mini-review

The handle is more hand filling compared to the new standard thinner Bushfinger handles. If you can find an old Bushfinger with the thicker handles, it would be a good fit as well.

Awesome collection Nathan, thank you for sharing. I am really digging the woods in your collection. The little Raptor has found a good home where equally impressive spalting is being displayed, and the woods in your collection are equally impressive.

I need to get the camera out sometime soon, but with fallen leaves, firewood to make, and trying to get to the range before the weather makes a turn for the worse has consumed just about every free minute in my life.

Very nice selection there Baron. That Asp is right up my ally, very nice indeed. If you are ever interested in parting with it let me know.

Hey Jon,

It is nice to see an update on the changes in your collection. You were on quite a power buying spree earlier this year with many models and handle configurations. I would love to hear more about what factors lead you to refine your collection down to this group of favorites. I see a heavy emphasis on the EDC sized 3" models and a nice selection of 4" models. This tells me that you are more practical (mature?) about what will be used versus some of us romantics here who like the larger models, but still reach for a 3"or 4" when we hit the trail. Honestly, there is not much that your Bear Paw can't handle on the large end.

Thanks again for the update. I appreciate the fact that you have no duplicates of models or handle materials. Well done my friend.

Phil

Well...I figured since I now have 13 Fiddlebacks, it was time to stop procrastinating and take some pics of the collection. I apologize ahead of time for my poor photography skills and I hope you enjoy my contribution:

And now for some themes...First and foremost, I have always been a sucker for the tapered tangs. Tapered tangs make up the majority of my collection and are the most balanced knives of the group.

As you can see, this Lonestar has the thinnest taper I have ever seen (sitting next to my Runt for comparison). I think a playing card is thicker.

Next up, my small collection of Bocote. The Kephart is quite the show piece.

Finally, I saved the best for last. My personal favorite model would be the Bushcrafter. Something about this knife makes me never want to put it down, it just fits. I got lucky acquiring this old school model (thanks Bud). It is amazing how different both of these knives are even though they are both Bushcrafters. One has the fattest handle of all of my Fiddlebacks and the other has the thinnest, one is tapered the other full tang. Of course the grinds are nothing alike, one a 1/8" scandi and the other a fat 5/32" convex.

Taking part in the Fiddleback community has been one of the best experiences. Andy and crew are a truly geniune bunch whom have fostered a subforum full of good-hearted people.

Wow, I really like the pine cone Sneaky. I'll definitely be adding that to the list of things I can't live without. Very nice collection.

Great collection. Some of those tapers are barely freaking visible!
Very nice sir.

Thanks Thurin, forgot about that thread

Great collection Hone. Some amazing tapers there! And I love the Bocote.

For some reason I can't see the Bushcrafter pics.

Sorry about that. I was having some trouble with photobucket. They should be working now.

Thanks Phil! I cycled out a bunch of fiddlebacks this last year. Mostly were duplicates and some of the larger knives. I really liked the larger ones I had (Hunters, Dukes, Leuku, Big Sneaky, etc), but ultimately they weren't as practical like you said as I am drawn to the 3-4 inch models.

I doubt I expand the collection much more, but might be looking to add some more stainless.

Great collection updates all around. :D Think I'm going to have to try a Lone Star EDC one of these days.

Wow!!! I haven't checked this thread in awhile.

Nathan, not only a great collection, but awesome photos and sub categories too!!!

Great collection Jon, thanks for giving us the update! My favorite is the kephart in black houndstooth (that just sounds bad ass).

Hone that is a mighty fine collection. I love the bocote, especially the kephart. Have you or any one with a curly q tried using that as a striker for a firesteel?

Bud - I get dizzy just looking at that collection of beb. That is one of the most beautiful collections I have ever seen. It is great to see Jarrett's and Allen's work in there too. I just got my first knife from Jarrett and it came out great and sharp as a razor.

Bud, that is a whole lot of box elder burl goodness. Nicely done.
