home sweet home....buried under a four foot white blanket

this was before the big snow last week...we got 36 more inches in two days

Some of you might know about the situation my father is going through. I thought I'd update you with the latest and ask for continued prayers for him and my mom.

About 4 years ago he was diagnosed with Stage III Melanoma that had started in his leg and moved to the lymph nodes. Surgery was done and treatment started and he was clean until February this year when they found it in his lungs during a routine scan meaning it had reached Stage IV. Surgery was again performed and a more aggressive treatment put in place to try and slow down the growth and spread. The first few scans after that had come up clean, but the latest one shows that it's still spreading in his lung. They will be doing a followup scan in a while to see how quickly it's growing to determine the course of action.

In the meanwhile, my dad is still being my dad, which means going 100 miles an hour. The treatments are hard on him. So I ask for prayers for him; for healing of the cancer, for strength as he goes through treatment, and that he'll realize that it's ok to slow down a little and recuperate. I also ask prayers for my mom for strength as she goes through this with him.

I'm trying to get up to MN to spend some more time with them in the next couple weeks.

Thanks!
Nathan

Forgive me for quoting myself, but I wanted to give an update on my dad.

A scan in September showed a spot in the Kidney that they wanted to monitor, but otherwise the scan was looking pretty good. The spot in the lung in the scans was determined to be scar tissue from the surgery and not something to worry about. They wanted to keep an eye on the Kidney and scheduled a follow up scan after my brother's wedding in the middle of October. My dad was performing the ceremony, and they didn't want the testing or any treatment needed to get in the way of the wedding.

The followup scan however not only showed the kidney issue, but an extremely fast growing (since it wasn't there in the scan just a month prior) tumor in the muscle tissue around the spinal column. Biopsies showed this to be melanoma as well. Because of how fast it spread, and how it was spread throughout the muscle, they are not able to operate.

Monday he starts a very aggressive treatment to try and slow the growth and hopefully shrink it to the point that they can operate. His brother who has Melanoma as well has responded very well to this type of treatment. It's one of those though that if the cancer doesn't kill ya, the side effect just might. But it's the best hope at this point.

We're heading up to see my folks and the rest of the family for Thanksgiving. Then in a few weeks I'll be heading back up on my own to spend time with my folks as the side effects from treatment start kicking in so that I can be there to help out. Fortunately, I've been able to work things out on the job front to allow me some extended time away.

Thanks everyone for the prayers and smoke.

Cancer sucks.

Prayers, Nathan.

A friend of mine threw a surprise birthday fir his wife (~32) two Saturdays ago. That night, she had a migraine so bad they went to the er. After a bunch of tests, they found a brain tumor. Brain biopsy that Wednesday showed it was cancer. They're hopeful, but also scared to death. They've got a little girl less than a year old.

I grew up as a kid in Montana and Colorado. I know that kind of snow can be tough when you need to get to work, but man, I miss days like that. I would be jumping off the roof!

Got to spend some QT with my little one tonight while mommy was at work. She's the best part of my everyday. I see a little sunburst G10 2F Karda in her future;)ImageUploadedByTapatalk1416722831.477842.jpg

A friend of mine is going through the exact same thing. She is 34, has two little girls. She was diagnosed in late August. Her first words out of her mouth were "we need to take the girls to Disney". After some fundraising, they were able to go last week. Prayers for your friend and her fight.
