Guhul
I hope it met your expectations of "Banana Nut Bread" dyed.

I made that up that Friday morning.

dsarps mentioned in the "Well its Friday" thread about the PK as a go between the Runt & Hiking buddy as compared to the Esquire

Here is all of them..

As i was checking them out before the pic I noticed I like the wider scales from top to bottom on the PK over the Esquire
:)

I thought that was an unofficial name :D...but you did great. It suits very well...the colors are very different from what i have seen so far...
Thanks for the reply on the PK ....i will give it another shot. Had a 3/16 PK which was on tbe thicker scale side...the od one seems slimmer. I will grab it...

What a beauty, Guhul! :thumbup:Congrats
Just don't lose concentration and take a bite out of it.:)

Thx...it is very tempting, it looks so delicious

Need a PK in 3/32. Personally anything over 1/8 in smaller blades is not something that suits my use.

Beautiful taper on that blade Simon & thanks for getting the PK I was losing my resolve.

Great post mist. I read and looked through the other thread but figured I would comment here. I have yet to run into any wild onions here in Colorado. I've heard and read that we have them but I haven't seen them yet. Could be that I'm never directly looking for them. Lunch looks good!

I've been having a great internal debate about which model I should get for my next Fiddleback. I know I want one of the 4"+ bushcrafty type blades. I had originally not included the Kephart in my consideration because I didn't really like the blade style, but the more I see of these production versions the more I'm starting to like them! I also think maybe something a little larger and in 5/32 would suit some of my uses if I plan on carrying a saw/knife combo... too many things to think about and not enough money to spend on knives...

Thank you. Depending on when you typically go hiking they may look a little differently than these photos. Around the end of April and into May, here is this area, they go into flowing phase. By June they have gone to seed and the stalks slowly wither away from there. Then near the end of winter they send up new shoots. Capturing hi rez images of the plants in their various phases of growth is what my flora data base project is all about. It is for being able to show my students what the plants look like in clear high resolution throughout their entire growing cycle.

The Duke may be the best option for you then if you prefer a bigger blade. It has a 5.5 inch blade, but due to the balance it is very nimble and handles extremely well. I like the Kephart because for so many of my uses the narrower pointier blade works in my favor. The Kephart also offers me a lot of versatility in carry options and even more once I get kydex sorted for it.

I have also considered the Duke.

I don't have a ton of time behind larger blades so I'm not sure of my preferences quite yet! I'll have to buy a couple and experiment probably.

Thanks!

iirc
Mistwalker and I have discussed that the Duke paired w/ a kydex sheath might be one of the better outdoors rigs.

Definitely! I'm going to have to take a look at some more of the comparison threads. I like the looks of the Duke and of course the Woodsman. The Terrasaur is a bit longer than the other 4" models correct?

the OAL for the Terrasaur is 9"
BUshcrafter is 8 1/2'"
Bushfinger is about an 8 7/8"

I would like to see a kydex option available for the Duke, Bushfinger, Kephart, and Hiking Buddy. Would really take full advantage of the environmental hardiness of the materials used on the knives themselves. Great for outdoor exploration, fishing, and hunting because everything could easily be washed and cleaned after use.

You have to go up to the Woodsman or Duke to get significantly beyond the 4 inch mark in the Fiddleback line as far as I know. The Woodsman and Duke both have 5.5 inch blades, with the Woodsman being more pointy and the Duke having more belly. I carry the Duke more in the woods here due to it being in S35VN, but even though it is better at tasks like chopping than the Woodsman because of the profile and weight distribution, a mid-tech Woodsman would likely win out for me personally.

Loving seeing the Kephart in use. I really like the kydex/leather hybrid Rick Lowe makes for the mid-tech Bushfinger and HB. I had him make one up for another knife pattern and plan on ordering another this week.

I'm a fan kydex as well, and have been considering getting the stuff to make my own... like I need another hobby. Haha. I do enjoy tinkering and making things and it would be nice to not have to wait 4-6 weeks for a good kydex holster every time I get a new pistol. Hmmmm...

When I'm ready to get my outdoorsy, bushcrafty knife I will definitely take a look at the production Duke. I also prefer the pointer shape of the Woodsman, always have, but I, like you, enjoy having the ease of stainless. It isn't as important here in Colorado, but it sure is nice to not have to worry about rust. If they did a production Woodsman I would most definitely purchase one right away.

I've gotten into to making Kydex sheaths in last few months. It really isn't that hard to do, and the materials are very affordable. YouTube is a great tool!

Here's one that I've made.

I can't say I prefer kydex all together. In some cases I prefer the classiness of leather, and in others the quietness of it. But when it comes to secure inverted carry, wet weather, or salt water applications I definitely prefer kydex.

Very nice!! I'm pretty familiar with the process I just haven't pulled the trigger on the stuff yet. I'm sure I will sometime soon. I have a knife, and gun or two that could use some kydex.

I agree completely!

Have you considered the Leuku? It sort of bridges the size gap between the 4" models and the Duke.

Once I can spring for a production Duke & Kydex sheath that will replace it more than likely.
