I Recently made a trade with a noob named Firesteel Survival. I traded him a mint Landi convex for for a Spyderco military cpm440v. The Spyderco military was described as great condition, and a picture of a great condition fully serrated military was posted within the post. The knife arrived as a plain edge knife that looks as if the serrations may have been ground off with a grinding wheel and the blade has about 2cm of play before it contacts the liner lock. It's utter s#*t, this knife needed to be retired not traded.
His real name is Nathan Thompson and he is from Portsmouth Ohio. Avoid this kid. I contacted him with a very civil email and for my efforts he deleted his post description and the pictures within it. He wont answer any emails to even refute or try to weasel out of this now obvious deception.
I take some responsibility for this though. I got complacent with my trading because through the many trades and buys I have made here on BF I had, until this point, never been even remotely disappointed. So let this be a lesson to all of you.
Thanks to all the honest guys out there I have dealt with, and thanks to all the honest ones that I have yet to deal with.
If anyone wants pics of this abortion I'll post some.

It really breaks my heart to see yet another very young BFC member turn out to be a thieving POS.

Please, post some pics!!! I feel for you man, I was prey for the Saudi Scammer. It has definately made me a more cautious trader, but I have had nothing but luck recently!!!

Sorry brother!

Woah, I almost bought that knife on KF. I actually made an offer and backed out before he replied. The knife community is 99% good folks and I'm always sorry to hear about a bad apple. Thanks for the heads up.

Ok...well I am kind of humbled here. Like I said I got complacent. I really should have investigated it further. I would never have dealt with a 14 year old kid. I am going to back off of my anger. I am not happy I got screwed, but in retrospect I will bear the burden of this one. He is after all a 14 year old kid and the Landi I traded him would be a hard thing to give up. Seriously I kind of feel like a douche at this moment and I am glad that I didn't go off on him in my emails. Hopefully he continues to explore the great outdoors and hopefully as he matures he discovers that honesty is the best policy. It's kid shit and I really cant begrudge him that. Damn it! Well as my final thought on this, dont trade with him, he needs to mature.

Although, If I were his daddy and I found out that he did this I would beat his little ass. And that my friends is my final word on the subject.

Did he mail the POS Spyderco? IF so, it is arguably mail Fraud, a federal crime with a stiff penalty.

Is this the No. 25, Nathan Thompson, Class of 2013 in the local HS in Portmouth?

Does he think his reputation will remain intact if he defrauds someone?

Does he know this will come up when a prospective college or employer does a search of his name 5, 10, 15, 20 years from now?

Questions, questions, questions.

Excuse me. Theft is not "kid stuff." It's dishonesty. Enabling that behavior just makes it more likely that his life will follow down that twisted path.

Not good. This kind of behavior does not respond properly to kindness. I just emailed him for an explanation.

His age is no excuse for his actions, and IMHO no reason you should let it slide.
My son is only 13, but he knows the difference between right and wrong.

You are correct though, If he was my son and pulled something like this, he knows the consequences would not be good.

Thomas I realize what you are saying and I really in no way condone what he has done. I am just really looking at this as a lesson learned. I do see your point and I am wrestling with it. I have warned folks about what to expect if they deal with him. I guess the point is that I feel a bit stupid for not researching the trade further, and being combative with a 14 year old kid just doesn't sit well with me. I am a former sailor, and I have a ton of life experience. All of my fights are adult oriented and I fight to win, all things being equal I have no issue with that. However, I have no ideal how to engage a 14 year old. It's a conundrum that I am ill equipped to handle. Advice or reflections on this issue are requested and appreciated.

You can forgive him in your heart and still seek justice (without vengeance) in this world.

I understand your conundrum. I listened to him talk in one of his Youtube videos about a knife his father got him and it made me very sad.

I will say no more in this thread...

Call his parents. Tell them you want him to make it right so you can post he did it and clear his record for purposes of future background searches.
