Finally seeing the other side of Strider

I think my point was more the fact that I have quite a few Kershaws, Cold Steel, et al, costing well under a 100 bucks that work just fine with no extra attention, (Even Samrenmu, Ganzo, Enlan, costing waaaay under a hundred) let alone considerably more expensive knives. Just sayin' ;').

Titanium frame locks often had lock stick. You don't hear of it as much now, with steel inserts and carbonized lock faces. But, it's an acceptable fix to apply sharpie, or pencil lead to get things working smoothly.

Sharpie?, never heard that one. Has it worked for you? Pencil has always worked for me.
I'm always surprised when I get good customer service anywhere. If I'm otherwise happy with something, and I can fix it myself without too much effort or cost, I'll gladly do it myself instead of dealing with customer service. Reality.

Others swear by sharpie, instead of pencil. I've only used pencil, too. All my sharpies were always too thick at the tip.

Sharpies always worked better than pencil for me. Just my experience, YMMV. . .

Oh, and just to weigh in on the original topic, yes Strider CS totally sucks. Dealing with them is like jumping out of plane with a parachute on. You just have to pull the cord and trust/hope that it opens.

If it does - great.

If it doesn't. . . Well, sucks for you.

I have had great success with Sharpies. I don't know why they work, I can only presume there's Graphite in Sharpie ink. Sharpies and pencil are such a close first and second place that the reason to use one other the other is simply availability. YMMV.

Ah Strider knives, I used to own a bunch and accepted that they came defective. I also knew after repair (or two) they would be perfect. As years went on and my knife tastes evolved I sold my Striders and moved towards knives with fewer headaches.

I had a bad experience with the only strider I ever bought. brand new, sng cc, lock rock, chica chica chica, dealer purchase, dealer says send to strider, $25 check to strider, $25 insured fedex, (strider says we don't deal usps WTF) I put a letter in the box detailing chica chica chica and asked please don't cap that blade stop (because I read somewhere you could do that and they would not, you can not, they will cap that blade stop) 6 weeks later, I get my sng cc back with a capped blade stop which is all redonkulus, every bit of it. brand new $500 knife, dealer don't want it, $50 to fix it. cheap temp fix. makes me sick, like the design, wish strider would go the way of the Begg steelcraft kwaiken and have reate produce a SNG

Guess I lucked out, mine was perfect and is solid to this day. All the problems I keep reading about, sure doesn't make me want to invest in another though.

I'm ASSUMING you meant put a bigger thumbstud/stop pin in as they have never used a cap. If you really do have a cap please add a picture of it.

This is correct-They do not and have never used caps for the blade stops.
I have only had two problem with my many Striders(loose blade stop and a sticky lock-that was more of a neebie problem then them).I sent it in and they fixed it. They can lack a little on communication, but I think that is do to a small staff with many jobs.

This is a thread about customer service.

Your comment, while perhaps 100% accurate, is irrelevant. If every customer could fix problems with the Strider knives on their own, that says zero about Strider customer service.

Exactly. I eventually applied sharpie to alleviate lock stick as a result of my own research. Having to do so is ridiculous (I have other titanium framelocks which did not require any such bootleg repairs) and not receiving at least such a suggestion from Strider themselves is flat out bullshit.

My own DIY heatshrink solution for slight lock rock/late lockup on my waved SNG. Lockrock was present when I got it.

So you wouldn't mind if you had to use duct tape hold the bumper on your new Mercedes?

Hahahaha!

It's stories like these that when i start to think about buying a strider..... i quickly talk myself out of it!

I feel lucky to have an absolutely perfect SnG CC and it has been since day 1. It has become my favorite folder out of the hundred or so that has passed through my hands over the last few years. That and a Native 5 G10 fulfill all duties except Sunday when a slippie is called upon. I have no interest in the tantos, weird grinds, etc.. as I find the FFG, stonewash blades to work best for slicing. A razor sharp Strider in this config will indeed slice rather well.

I hope to never need Strider's service, but after a couple years with the knife, I don't think I will. Very polarizing brand indeed.
Just wanted to add some positive vibe to the thread. :)

FFG SnG CC is a WINNER

Also for those that don't understand why no USPS. Strider feels there is someone that has been targeting their knives in the PO(locally). It is to protect your knife from theft.

I read that it was because of nondelivery or late delivery issues. No one really knows.

They also said that their post man was failing to leave notices. That and the previous post are all I know about it(and/or remember). They posted on a forum I am on, but it has been long time .
