Finally seeing the other side of Strider

Lock stick I fixed by using the knife.
A broken blade, loose pocket clip and having one engraved strider all did with no problems. No phone calls, emails, smoke signals, update requests or stalking needed. They prefer FedEx apparently. No big deal. I like FedEx best too, they dont stomp my boxes and always ring my doorbell when they drop off an item.

I still carry my first SMF every day. Old lock "geometry," boring S30V, no lock issues, pivot is tight. It opens, locks, cuts and closes. 6+ years going strong.

My experiences with strider customer service have been fine. I guess it all depends on your expectations. I just wanted a knife fixed, and followed their instructions.
If you prefer to make new pen pals, have deep phone conversations and up to the minute updates they probably are not be for you.
Best of luck.

I really didn't want to post in this thread, and now I don't have to....

Thanks for the dead on perspective as always.

As the OP here I have to chime in and say...

Wait what? So wanting all my parts back is being unrealistic?

I don't want a penpal lol. I just want my knife to work and to have all its parts.

I don't think that's unrealistic.

No, its actually silly and stupid that they would remove parts and not reinstall them prior to shipping.

They clearly need an extra man/woman/child/smart animal to Qc and inspect items before packaging.

Its called working smarter not harder. They should have heard that term before, they are military, right? I kid...

Best of luck man, personally id keep my knife at the house and snail mail them asking for my parts back. Registeted mail? Lol

To this day I cannot for the life of me comprehend how Strider is still in business. Every time I am tempted to buy one of their knives because the SNG aesthetic is right up my alley, I have to stop and ask myself, "do I want to roll those dice??".

The answer is always, "NO!!!"

Why, in this day and age, for the money one spends on a Strider should lock rock and blade play be an acceptable eventuality???
I never hear about that with ZT knives, and they are less than half the price of a bargain Strider, and they are made in America to boot.

Seems like Mick needs to hire a few more process & manufacturing engineers to ferret out the sources of mechanical variability in his manufacturing process. It is the 21st century, after all. There is no shame in getting the nerds to help run your business.

Lock rock and blade play certainly is not the eventuality of all strider folders. I have owned and used quite a few.

Blade play can happen to most folders if the pivot is loose. Had lock rock once when oil got on the tang.
Keep it clean and dry, no worries.

Strider is also made in the US.

So you wouldn't mind if you had to use duct tape hold the bumper on your new Mercedes?

No, not in the slightest. Besides, they're a client of mine so they would take care of me. ;)

I never said I was okay with it; just what I did to fix it on my own terms. Jumping to conclusions doesn't help anyone FWIW.

Shipping it down to strider would probably be a nightmare cross border and take forever so I chose the DIY route. I may even look at press fitting larger stop pin for earlier lock-up too.

My last SNG (identical to the one in my pic other than blade steel) needed lock tweaking too; the lockbar was carbidized and more tension added.

I have one SNG in the safe; a DGG in PD1 steel; it has slight lock stick but is basically unused and lockup is tight. We will see how that one goes...:(

Some years ago I had the opportunity to compare half a dozen or so Striders with the same number of large and small sebbies. F&f of the CRK
knives was flawless and identical, just what i"ve come to expect from Chris Reeve. Every one of the SNG and SMF offerings had some sort of
problem ranging from lock-rock to centering issues; guess which ones I bought. Threads like this go to prove my initial impressions were
correct.

Not at all. We love to hear from non strider owners, chiming in on a strider customer service oriented thread, about how their Chris Reeve has better fit and finish.

Yes, we do love to hear from everyone. It's a forum. And it would be nice if everyone were at least polite when someone has their own experience to comment on and add to the discussion.

Got it. I should buy a knife with obvious flaws just so I can evaluate how good the customer service is at fixing them. Right.

Striders are not for whiners or those with OCD. They are not CRK's nor are CRK's Striders-two different style knives made with different purposes in mind. To the new buyer there may seem to be problems, but most of the so called problems are resolved once the knife has been broken in, or very slight tweaks. Some are a bit stiff in action or have a bit of lock rock initially, but the action will smooth out and the lock will settle in,with break in. A slightly off center blade does not effect performance and usually can be self adjusted if you find it annoying . If these things bother you fine. It doesn't make you a bad person and there are plenty of other makers out there. I like CRK's(as well as others) , but would never use a CRK for some of the things you might use a Strider. It's a rough knife for rough duty. Customer service can be a little like the knives-rough, but they will get the job done and have good coverage.
The OP however is totally justified to be un-happy about his missing part.

I bought the one SMF just out of curiosity mainly and it is perfect. Locks up tight, blade is centered, fit and finish is excellent. It's, a very well made knife and I am completely pleased with it.
