I've been inspired by a recent act of kindness by member r8shell, and by my upcoming anniversary of becoming a member myself. I have gained so much by participating in this forum over the last year, not only in knowledge but also in friendships. I am constantly in awe of how easy it is for somebody like me to learn from the decades of experience that others have put into this hobby. I am so grateful to the veteran members that share their hard earned experience so freely. I just can't overstate how much that means to me. I've been involved in other hobbies where people guarded their secrets like old hermits and every tidbit was gained through personal experience. It makes all of this so much more enjoyable to have a group of great people that are so willing to answer questions and offer suggestions. I honestly don't think I'd be into knives like I am if it weren't for this group. I would have found a knife that I liked and moved on with my life. Thank you all so much.
On July the 1st I'll have been a member of this community for one year. I came here because I wanted to find a good pocket knife and I needed to do some research to know how to spot a good one in the sea of junk. I stuck around because I found a great community in the sea of junk that is the Internet. ...
Congratulations on your upcoming anniversary, Cory!:thumbup: I guess I never realized that you became a member only about 3 weeks before I did; you always seemed like one of the wise old veterans to me.

You also always seemed VERY articulate compared to me, and I especially appreciate that gift of yours in reading your intro to this GAW. Your and my experiences here at the forum sound like they've been quite similar, and I really relate to the way you described yours. The kindness and sharing that occur here has been an astounding blessing to me!
I feel obligated to enter your GAW "for old times' sake"!

You were the "host" of the first BF GAW I was eligible to enter, and it was the first such "contest" of any kind that I ever won in my life! So superstition dictates that I enter this one too. Besides that, I've been contemplating getting my first stag-handled knife, and one pattern I've seriously considered is a 2-blade toothpick. The Gambler you're giving away looks to me like a straightened-out pen knife version of a 2-blade toothpick jack (about 4" closed for each I think). So if not a "grail knife", it's at least close enough for me to give it a shot!
I've had the same knife (a Colonial Forest-Master) since 1960, and it was, for all intents and purposes, my ONLY knife until January of last year. Then I got interested in carrying a pocket knife again after usually carrying no knife for about 45 years. Today I worked on updating a little spreadsheet I keep for my knives, and was amazed to discover that in the past year and a half, I've accumulated over 70 knives!

(Just yesterday I wrote that I thought I had 40-some. My estimation skills obviously need work.)
Thanks for running this generous GAW, Cory, and congrats again on your impending membership milestone. Good luck to all the entrants!:thumbup:
