First Annual Pay It Forward Buildoff

the patterns have just been put in the mail so you guys should be seeing them within a week or so hopefully.

Hey Lorien ,

I havent been keeping up with this thread lately but Im still in. We have had wildfires around her last couple weeks. I've kinda been pre-occupied. I sent you a pm about a week or two ago. Hope to see the drawing soon . Thanks for the opportunity.

everyone who sent me their address will receive the design they'd asked for hopefully by the end of next week. Could be the following week.

Also, I'd like to start running the poll. Matt, if you're out there- I need some help!

Just ran across this build off and would like to try making my first knife for this. I know it is past the April 15 deadline to enter, but if possible, I would like to do so. I'm interested in design "A". I sent you an email with my address. Hope you accept me into this.

I didn't receive any email from you fella, giver another try, and no problem welcome aboard!

I'll try and get one out to you tomorrow if there are any left, otherwise sometime after.

your pattern is en route bro

Thought I'd post some pictures to show I am actually working on this.....

Freshly cooled down. Straight from the fire and waiting some big file loving.

Lookin' good, Will! You're going to catch up and surpass me... I had to put this project on the back burner because prior commitments have reared their heads. No worries though, I'm still on board! It will just be a while before I have any more progress pics to show off.

I'm waiting for steel delivery for a large project I'm on so I just decided to hit some steel today. Wasn't in the mood to hand sand blades on the bench so what else is a smith to do? :)

Will, I see that you have captured the spirit of that pattern. Well done sir.
James, you have a great start on this, and I personally find that my projects often turn out better when I get the rough general work done and then give myself time for reflection. Your knife is going to turn out amazing by the looks of it.
I'm getting very excited about this project!

I'm still dubious of my ability to get this done in time, but I at least got a start on it today. During my short lived forging 'career' a couple of years ago, I forged out 3 blades and this was the last one I did. It was forged as a drop point but otherwise was pretty similar to Lorien's design A, so I did some reprofiling on it today and starting cleaning up the ricasso and tang. (The ricasso is shorter than Lorien's drawing, so I may tweak to profile a bit to make it flow better.)

Here's the blank so far along with my quickie cardboard cutout/drawing extrapolated from Lorien's posted pic. I hope I'm on the right track with this, Lorien; feel free to offer critiques if you feel that I've missed the boat on your design!

you are SO on the right track bro!

Lorien, I'm glad that you think my final design looks like your design..... it's all a lie though but if it makes you happy for a bit then I'm happy for a bit :D

Paul, looks like a good start there.

didn't say it 'looked like' it Will. Just that you captured the 'spirit' intended by the original:). Stabby right.

Hi Lorien, The diagram came in the mail today. It's bigger than I expected. I'll get to work on it. Thanks!
