I hope I don't regret this... but I'm in. I turn things out at a glacial pace, but I already have something fun in mind for one of those designs (with a few serious tweaks for good measure). ;)

Erin

that's great Erin! Welcome to the Buildoff!

Yeah send me "A" I guess.... not that I really care what drawing you send me :barf: :barf: :barf:

:D

Wilma, I would kinda like to see you do design "A" just for the sake of setting your tremendous ego at the door and taking on an actual challenge instead of just repeating tha same-old-same-old you normally bash out. :rolleyes:

I'll give it a shot if you will, does that seem fair? I think it would be cool as a polar bear's bottom to see a hammer-jockey and a sparkmaker work up a similar design.

Already bought a notebook and working on sketching some stuff out. Can't wait to get back stateside to start working on this one. Should be fun.

well I guess it's the 15th...if any of you fine folk are on the fence about taking part, please try and make your decision today and drop me a pm or email to lorien at bladeworks . ca if you want to be involved.

There are 13 of us at this point, and plenty room for as many more as want to be.

Here is my reply to Paul's pm;

Paul, you can approach this in whatever way works for you. Donating the knife to someone who needs it is definitely 'paying it forward'.

No big deal if you don't finish by the deadline, as I said, this is all about paying forward, and all the rest is just for fun. I don't mind holding up the works for anyone who is close to finishing their knife.

The deadline for building is for when the judging starts, and we can run the judging as long as we want- til everyone has finished their knife, within reason.

As I told Lorien in my PM, I really despise making commitments when I'm not 99% certain I can keep them, and I'm just not sure I will be able to get mine done by the deadline (or before summer here...110F+ in my garage/shop is just not conducive to me getting much done.)

Having said that, I have a raw blank that's similar to Lorien's design A, and so I'm going to start work on it with the intention of entering the buildoff.

Thanks Lorien; I'm (kinda) in! ;)

Just to be clear, I'm in, Lorien. I hope to have a pic for you by this evening.

holy shit, James! Already?!
What can I say? ATTABOY!!

Thanks for stickifying this thread Stacy! Much appreciated : )

Easy there fella, it's not done yet lol. But I do have it profiled, drilled and started grinding the bevels. That dang curvy plunge you drew up is going to be fun...

P.S. you have mail ;)

James is off like a shot!

Here's what James had to say;

I made a little progress on the knife today. She is all drilled out and profiled and I've begun tapering the tang and setting the bevels. I stretched out the blade a tad and the handle is narrower overall than your drawing, mainly because I only have 1.5" stock on hand. Haven't decided on the guard situation yet; I think I may forgo bolsters on this one and just go for a sleek fast fighter look with stabilized wood scales. The steel is 3/16" CPM-D2. I plan to grind her thin and light but leave the spine full thickness near the guard area for toughness.

I don't have the proper membership to post pics on BF but you're welcome to pass along this pic if you like.

Would you be opposed to me raffling this thing off over on KnifeDogs? I'm thinking of donating the proceeds to a local organization that helps homeless veterans and a raffle might be the quickest way to move this baby and get the funds on their way to some folks who need it.

I am certainly not opposed to you guys raffling off your knives. That sounds like a fantastic cause, by the way!

It's very interesting to me to hear why you guys tweak the design to your needs, and I'm happy to post that and your photos for you here.
