Recommendation? First folder EDC

I have a Bugout and love it now that it Sports G10 handles. If you're building it from BM I would spring for the G10 or get the knife and swap the scales. Otherwise the Spyderco PM2 is fantastic and also consider a Para 3. All good edc choices for the same price point.

Did you end up sticking with what you had? Or did you buy a new blade? If so what did you end up getting?
So far I'll stick with what I have, I need to do research because I heard recently that it might be illegal here to possess a knife that open with one hand. Federal law in canada prohibe automatic, assisted and gravity opening knife, but local law can be stricter. So I'm currently asking the police station around to know what I can carry and where. In some places my leatherman might be illegal to EDC since it can be opened with one hand. That bum me out drastically.

WDC... weekday carry??

I tried a bugout but for me it was just too small, are you able to find a shop near you and handle any knives too see what fits you best?

Okay so I make a couple research and I come back to the original idea.

If I recap, I should go spyderco, but if I want something something for life then CRK is the way to go. I'm very afraid to "open the pit" so I will settle for the spyderco.

I currently find the Amalgam to be very neat, so much in fact that I'm looking for a fixed blade just like that, but just 3/4" longer.

Now there's two thing;

First is it just me or the compression lock is a bit awkard to use? I'm used to one under the blade where you hold it edge-up, unlock it with your thumb, lift the blade just to pass the lock, remove the finger in the way and then close it. Easy and safe. The compression lock is not intuitive to me.

The second thing, please read until the end, if I where to carve a wooden wedge, baton an unlocked folder into a say 2-2'5" log until it's completely lodged in the wood and then baton the wedge to finish the job, I sould be able to split "any" log no? Ain't gonna do it for fun, but I read somewhere it's ain't really bad for a blade to do so, what do you think?

batoning is bad for every part of a folder, not just the blade

First folder. Spyderco Delica or Endura. First fixed. Esee 3, 4. or maybe an DPX Hest original (multi tool).

Okay so after discussing it, things have again changed. The exchange with the officer ended more or less with "if you're too much in the grey zone, a zeelous officer you might seize your knife. Now even if it's legal and you get it back, do you really wanna risk going trough that kind of trouble?"

So, no flipper, no guard and no spear point. In short something "agressive" may bring myself trouble. I can have those, but with a valid reason, not for EDC. If I'm to buy a knife for a specific purpose, I'll with a fixed anyway.

He recommended two hand and no pocket clip, but as long as I'm not in big city I shouldn't have any problem with those. That's fine for me, I rarely go there anyway.

I read back all your suggestion, compared with my need and now I'd like you guy to tell me if I'm seeing it right.

I'd like to go with the para serie, probably the para 2, but I think that if I'm going high performance, I should go with a fixed blade. When I say EDC, that include work and as an electromecanic, a abuse knife could have it place beside a replacable blade knife. But as an abuse knife, I shouldn't with 200+$ knife.

So I'm looking in the cheap spyderco, 8cr13mov seem fast and easy to sharpen. More slender blade too, I can see one of the clipitool be usefull by my side.

So what do you think? Cheap, versatile and expandable blade for EDC, fixed and performing for the rest?

Ps: it may be worth to note that I want a folder as a back up for the real knife I'd use.
