First knife build need help

Another random question and this one is for Stacy. I stumbled across a thread on dragon skin Damascus and was curious if it's just a showy Damascus or if it could be used to make something along the lines of a wakizashi? Only reason I ask is on another thread I saw people saying what there dream blade would be and it got me thinking "if I could make just one blade what would it be?".
 
Starting blade two tomorrow. Just have few minor tweaks to make to the tanto designs blade then it's ready to be shipped off. Will be starting the match as soon as I get a belt sander from a buddy. No way I'm doing that much if a blade without one lol. I'll post a picture once I get it finished and cleaned up.
 
Ok on to number two. Going back to basics on form and ready for criticism.

I like the overall shape, though I'd probably round over the point at the lanyard hole just a little, and being a member of the "simple is usually better" club, I'd probably swap your square lanyard hole for a round one. That's more of a personal taste issue, however.
 
Back to the original project(dizzy yet?) I've been trying to find design ideas for a leather sheath for the tanto but am coming up a little short. Anyone know of someone who's made one for a japanese knife?
 
Last question before I take a hiatus to workout a few kinks in the design. Just curious if 1095 once hardened will spark a ferro rod?

Absolutely. As long as you have a portion that is sharp enough to scrape shavings off of the rod, such as a 90 degree corner on the spine of the blade.
 
Quick question before I resume my hiatus to finish my wip. Is there any way to give steel a black color similar to bluing? I want to keep the shine but with black. Thank you all again for all the advice and help
