First larger fighter: The Inquisitor!

How come I did so much work and it doesn't show that much. :(
Thanks to Chris I added a ring on the finial and I like it. Of course this one is a little crooked but I just wanted to see how it looked. Thanks Chris, I owe you one.
The guard still needs to be more refined. Same with the handle. But I must admit I like it more and more.
I might not engrave it after all. If I get the final shape nice enough, I am afraid the engraving might take away from that. If that makes any sense. :o We'll see.

Thanks again for following this and for you invaluable help.

Pat, I really like how this one is turning out! As for engraving, that could go either way but I kinda like it like it is, engraving could make it too busy, if you know what I mean! Maybe a very highly polished Red spacer at both ends of the handle, you know to add that touch of blood to the look!:D

Just jerking your chain, I like it like as is. The handle dose need a high polish to it too make it stand out! My O2! What are the dimensions of this bad boy again?

Pat you have came a long way my friend, you are bringing your A+ game to the table these days!!

Dixie, you are right, polishing that Blackwood is one of the steps I most look forward to. Still need to put more curves on that handle though.
It's not that I dont like the blood idea but I think it would make it look a little "fantasy" like. ;)
OAL is 14" with the blade at 8.25".

Thanks for the good words and suggestions, I really appreciate.

Well, after seeing it shaped up a bit more I recognize the handle as being one for a chopper or a battoning knife as some might call it. I believe if it were turned end for end and a bit of shaping at the back end it would be far more suitable then for your fighter. Maybe more like a Nick Wheeler would have been more appropriate here. The blade is stillthe MOST !!! Frank

I don't know Frank, I kind of like the handle and find it fits the whole design pretty well. It may not be the optimal fighting handle as Nick's would be but this is more of a display piece than a pure fighter. And it was only meant to look mean to help the Inquisitor in his work. ;)

I must say it does betray the fact that there is something I would very much like to try my hand at...antique pistols. :o

This was not meant to discourage you from doing what you want but to encourage you to go ahead now or later with what might be more appropriate and could look a lot better. That guard isn't meant to be there as made, but as soon as you accepted the fact that it "fits" then the handle became acceptable. Take off the handle and guard and try a cross guard that's about 2" - 2 1/2" long. your take down thing will allow you to have another look. The wideth of the ricasso might be too much but you should be able to get an idea where this could take you.
I am a lot older than you. I have done the antique pistols a very long time ago, I like doing the knives much more.
As I said I believe you have a very lovely blade. I think with a different handle it would become a very lovelt knife.
By the way, there are hundreds of makers that use "Nick Wheeler" handles. Frank

And now 100's of makers will be using "Patrice Lemee" handles!:cool::thumbup::thumbup: Stick to the plan Pat!!!!!!!!!!!!

That Bad Boy is freakin awesome just like it is!

Don't worry Dixie, I will. The pull from outside the box is much too strong. ;) I do appreciate your support.

Frank, don't worry, I am not discouraged, just discussing my point of view. I greatly appreciate your advices and you can be sure that all of them are copied to a file for future reference. I haven't been doing this for long so I still need experience and when I do get more with time, some of what you say may make more sense.
Also, when you are in the middle of a project, you are so absorbed in it that some things start to look ok but with a little perspective they might not. That's why I am saving all your input for future use. On this knife, the buyer is pleased with where it is going. Plus if I start over I'll run our of juice before completion. (which is still far away:() But I will use your suggestions on a future knife since I also like the blade shape a lot.

I still want to try pistols though. :( Any pics of your previous work in that field? How about making a cut'nshoot folder? ;)

Thanks again for you help.

Good decision on continuing, Pat. Aftrer all making what you want and how you want is the best thing about making knives. The "changes" you may incorporate today just could be ones orthers will want to use in the future. It's very kind of you to concider placing my suggestions in a place to retrieve at a future date.
Sorry, Pat, I never did have even one picture taken of the rifles and pistols I built. The thing is though some of my family still have the muzzle loaders I built for them including a left hand percussion rifle. The one I didn't finish was a double barrel. I gave what was done and the parts I had to a friend who said he might like to try completing it. None of the work on the guns was never as good as I wanted it to be and it seemed I wasn't advancing the quality. The folders are always a challenge and with the short time each takes, it's like you said you get a fresh start regularly.

Patrice that is some awesome looking work bro...stunning

I second what Frank said...Bruce Bump is the master of the cut in shoot

Yes Frank, I've been following Bruce's Cutn'shoot for a little while. Great stuff! Even helped find the name for one of them. :D

Thanks for the good words Leatherface.

It's getting closer. The guard and pommel are pretty much finished, shape wise. Only a boatload of cleaning up to do.
The handle is also pretty close but maybe defining some curves a little better. I could not resist the urge to buff it a little bit to see the result. I like it, as I thought I would! :D
Next: redoing the clip, refinishing the whole blade, including hamon, etching mark, a couple alignment pins in the butt maybe, final fitting, glue up, sharpening... As you see, this could take some time. :(

Thanks again for following this.

Pat,. that is awesome, just freakin awesome! :triumphant::victorious:

A couple of questions how did you do the cross itself? Was it done on a lathe? I think you may have said but I wasn't paying good enough attention! :eek:SORRY!:grumpy:

How did you do the black in the cross?

Cilff, the cross was first cut out on the mill and finished with files. It only appears black but is cut through. The plan is to inlay it with sterling silver.

Thanks for the good words.

OH HOLY CRAP you were typing as I was editing! Cut through, Sir you are going for the coup de gras on this one aren't you?! KEEP IT UP THIS ONE IS GOING TO PUT YOUR NAME IN PLACES IT HASN'T BEEN BEFORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Patrice, do you mind if I use your pommel on my next cut n shoot? It's awesome.
Thanks for the mention in your thread.
