I guess I was just raised better.

In my day, if you didn't have something nice to say, you would keep it to yourself.

I see no positive thought coming from posting how you don't like this or don't like that feature of a knife.

Most of the people doing so were raised thinking that there was no loser, and these people probably have a closet full of participation trophies to show how they are the center of the universe.

Sadly, it is their right to post their negativity on the forums, and likely will always be their right to do so.

Ignorance is bliss, and there are a lot of very blissful people here lately.

I like the overall design and what the Ruby stands for, as well as ZDP-189. I really love the comment about "ruining" zdp 189 by running it at a 62 rockwell, which is a few points above the hardness of most knives. Hard is hard, and it will perform just fine, like any other steel that is able to be heat treated to that hardness.

I have always been impressed with ZDP-189, and I saw on a video from Blade that Jim McNair said that Kershaw was sitting on a cache of ZDP-189 just for a special occasion, and the Ruby turned out to be that special occasion!

Well - back to the backbiting comments about how people don't like this, or "they shoulda' done that". I award you all a participation trophy for your shelf of mediocrity.

The Kershaw 4040 Ruby knife is meant for Kershaw and its fans to celebrate 40 years of Kershaw Knives. As such, certain flairs are quite appropriate and as for the price they're limited in numbers.

Of course, the aesthetics and price are subjective and you can choose to like or dislike.

If you don't like the aesthetics, fantastic! There will be more for the people that do like the design. Ruby will use ZDP-189, full titanium handles, a milled pocket clip, bearings, stainless steel lock puck, and the fit & finish will be on par. Along with that it's a limited edition piece, which means higher production costs for Kershaw. . .can someone spell it out for me, why is it over priced? I'd love to hear.

It has the new Kershaw logo and the year span on the handle. The blade is engraved with "40 Years". That seems to be it as far as billboarding. I think it looks great, not just for an anniversary piece, but as a knife that I'm going to use.

Your issue is that considering you need to say "This is not the Kai forum," it's obvious that you're not commenting on how you dislike the knife. You're intentionally taking nonsensical jabs for the sake of antagonizing with fans of the knife/brand. What is a "NASCAR knife"? There is nothing car-related on it. There are no sponsorship markings anywhere. I fail to see the connection. Moreover, what does the film crew of an action movie have to do with these three identifiers: "Kershaw Knives", "1974-2014" and "40 Years"? Again, I fail to see the connection.

Frankly, I couldn't take seriously any kind of aesthetic criticism that begins with "LOL!", so my response to it should be taken with a grain of salt anyway.

Quick, look up!! Did you see it? No? Oh too bad, because that was my point. You took my comparisons waaay to literally. Lets see if we can add some pepper to your grain of salt. In regards to the Movie and NASCAR references, I was pointing out that Kershaw's labeling on this particular knife (the design of which I like. as I said) is too over the top and has nothing to do with advertising. About the inciting comment. I stated in that same post that I was expressing an opinion and the thread should not be closed for that. As opposed to it being in a makers forum where they have every right to remove a comment that they do not like. It had nothing to do with Kai per se. Hopefully that helps to connect the dots a bit for you
Finally as far as my LOL, I was honestly acknowledging Bad_Juju. Who was attempting to add some brevity (at least I think he was) with his comments. I hope this explains things for you.

Sorry to derail the thread. it was not my intention. So lets get this back to the thread's subject.

I like the design
I hate the labeling. I find it too over the top, even for an anniversary piece. Especially for $400 that is Mid-Tech money.

Someone paged me to come here and share my opinions of the knife.

:o

Seriously, though. It's a knife. Some will like it, some won't. No sense getting too bent out of shape by the opinions of others.

Sorry to bust everyone's bubble, but I mean for the money they'll probably ask for this thing, I can get an adamantium blade with nano-bearing washers, gorilla glass handles, and platinum hardware from almost any custom maker and get it in a heartbeat. None of this order online nonsense.

All you Kershaw fanbois need to get your heads out of the clouds and come back down to Earth where the real knives are.

All I have to say is Golden!

It's not over the top. It's an anniversary knife. Do you want them to make an anniversary knife and not label it as such?

And also, it will probably be on par with most midtechs that you're familiar with and will have the same or better materials.

I for one am not a fan of this knife, not my taste, but j hold my tongue for the most part. :)

I am going to throw in on the side of ugly, since I find it ugly, and, I believe, all opinions about Kershaw are still welcome in the General Forum.

That said, I will strongly disagree with "overpriced." It sounds like the fans are going to buy them. Hence, it is not overpriced. Good luck to the folks trying to get one!

Too much is too much even for an "Anniversary Knife"
This I find a bit more classy..

That's a nice knife - I like polished G10, which I think that one was.

The fact that you posted this is a complete contradiction the the entire point you were attempting to make. And insulting others for expressing their opinions is just icing on the cake. But I do want to thank you ever so much for doing what you were raised to do and keeping your mouth shut...... oh waitaminute!

The knife looks cool and has a kind of 70's retro style graphics.I have been alive longer than Kershaw has been in business, therefore the styling and design is something that I can relate to.Retro is cool and I can see how they are trying to capture a 70's style and using modern technology and materials to celebrate 40 years of knife production.40 years is quite an accomplishment.Does someone have a list of knife makers that have been producing knives continuously for at least 40 years and actually moved production to the USA?That will be a interesting list.....

But how can you know how wrong you are unless I put it in your face?

Why, because I don't like it? There is no vitriol, no baiting and no insults or personal attacks.

So which is it bub., cuz it seems like you are baiting and trolling...you seem to be adding no relevant input other than the fact that you personally dont like the labeling, otherwise all you do is attack those who have expressed interest in the knife. How bout I stop by your house and shit all over the things you personally enjoy or excited about. Criticism is one thing, being a troll and an asshole are another. Each time a threat about a KAI LE is started on BF lately some douchebag has to come in and just add a nonsensical post about how silly everyone else is for liking it. may as well shut this one down too, because all certain BF members seem to do lately is drop trow and crap on KAI....you think you would have something better to do....go buy a gerber and shut the f__k up....

Can't wait for it to come out in a more muted fashion, love the overall knife but the graphics and grind lines on the scales don't do much for me.

Sigh... It never fails with KAI threads. Stop being so defensive, if someone says it's ugly or they don't like the way it looks and they should have done different, let them (whether you agree or not). Other brands get criticized all the time, "Spydercos are ugly, Axis lock springs break, CRKT Hi Jinx sucks".... But you rarely see all out arguing and personal attacks from such comments...And with KAI, it's always the same five or so members who take offense to anything negative. These high end knives should not be free from honest opinions, there are many high end items from cars to guns that have features I wish were different. We're not talking everyday standard items here. I personally like the Ruby and hope to get one BTW, surprised by the price though (please don't attack me as I assumed it would be $300 tops). Anyhoo, until the extremist fanatics accept that a public forum will have varying opinions from the general public, things will remain the same here. Here is a solution: Get a hold of each other's info and start a private chat, it should weed out opinions and criticisims that you cannot accept without getting all bent out of shape. You are just as guilty if not more so for things going sour in these threads in my opinion.

Sorry for the wall of text but I'm sick of it. I recall the Kai subforum outright banning criticism at one point...It didn't help. Stop...whining...about...the whiners... Try that :p
