First Look - Kershaw Echelon

Is the problem that it is too close to the body of the knife, making it hard to get under it with your thumb?

That and the thumb stud is too far down the blade for my thumb to reach it comfortably.

I don't know...I feel that the price (whenever it actually is available for purchase without having to Hawkeye the retailers) makes it something I'd buy to have and play with, but I've grown to prefer assisted flipper designs, and the thumbstud turns me off a bit here. I don't know. I'm so on the fence about this thing, especially since the Cryo is such a cute piece that I'd rather have.

I just purchased my first blade - an echelon!

As my first knife, I have a question. The knife was super stiff and would not engage the the speed safe mechanism. So, I loosened the pivot screw. However now the blade is way out of line / not centered.

Did I get a defect blade? Should I return it or what?

I played with one at my local knife shop (salidacutlery.com). I was excited to see it there! My first thought was "I'm buying it!" When I held it...um...not to be cruel but the particular one was of Chinese gas station knife quality.

I also played with one at Bass Pro :p I thought it fit the hand well, and would make a really cool edc.
But I'm one of those guys, that finds assisted opening knives boring, much prefer doing it myself.

Looks like the Strider SJ75...just $320 bucks cheaper. I love my SJ75 so Im sure I will love this knife. Of course I cant find any for sale. Also I need to research the blade steel so more.

Bump from the depths.

I just got mine yesterday, and can say that on mine the speed assist is quite stiff. So stiff that its caused my thumb to actually hurt when disengaging. Decided to take it apart and take out the speed assist and now the knife is superb.

Highly recommend it, this is my first "cheap" knife that iv brought in a while and its reminding me that you dont need to spend a good chunk of cash for quality

Any word on when they'll ship out some more? Everywhere I look is either out of stock, or priced at full MSRP, which is about 30$-40$ more than I'd like to pay.

That's the $60 question. I wish kershaw would license the design to a company that was actually interested in producing the knife. Are you listening, Sanrenmu?
