First Look - Kershaw Knockout

That's a neat lock. It kind of reminds of Dozier's Tab Lock.

It's exciting to see innovations like this.

Nice outside the box thinking, but that uncoated lockbar is ugly like baboon ass.

The proto locks are bead blasted, not uncoated.

This better?

I think different color on the lock would look awesome. Not silver, but a different color.

Hi Thomas -

Neat! Sub-frame lock - interesting idea.

I love the pocket clip as well - very nice deep-carry clip, which I prefer.

Thanks once again for the pictures, and I am sure I will have one or two of these new designs when they become available.

best regards -

Well it doesn't have Kershaw written on it but it is made by you guys and has your angled thumb stud. Regardless, the ones I have used I did not like and were outright uncomfortable for me personally. But it looks like some people like them and you can't make everyone happy all the time.

I guess I'm one of those folk that like them. I like how they are cut at an angle, it creates a flat plane for the thumb to get a very positive purchase when pushing the blade open. I have 3 knives with this stud, 2 Blurs, and a Zing, but I will admit that one of the Blurs' stud has some sharp edges and could really stand to be rounded of a bit with a file.

Okay, I'm glad I saw this one last, because it's easily become my favorite of the three protos. Love the "sub-frame lock" idea, and the "low-ride" style clips on these are a welcome addition IMO.

Oh, and personally, I kinda liked the contrast of the steel and aluminum of the first pics, though the second would probably look more attractive in hand.

The first thing that came to mind was how similar this one seems to the Cyclone - a couple other guys mentioned it, and I totally agree. That's a big plus in my book since the Cyclone remains my all around favourite knife.

Kershaw seems to be set to put out some REALLY nice looking new folders (this one and the Piston, especially, look flat-out awesome, imho) but dammit, why do they all seem to be A/O? Hopefully they'll function well with the torsion bars removed...

Does the pocket clip cover up attachment screws for the subframe-lock? (I see some poking out I believe...)

Where is the "spring" for the lockbar? I.E. where is th cut out to actuate the bar? Or does it use a real spring to actuate the lock arm (Microtch tried that on their liner locks ome time ago)?

Love the idea of the replaceable lock bar, it is replaceable isn't it? Also, I've yet to see an AO Kershaw that you couldn't make into a manual operation with a torx bit and 15 minutes of your time.

Thought I would throw up a couple of additional images. We have done up a Knockout handle that had a coated Sub Frame Lock, and that we polished the scales high spots. Think the polish shows in the pics.
