First Look - Kershaw Knockout

Very nice

It looks like Kershaw is going to drain my wallet in 2011

Really liking the looks of this knife. Any chance of producing some lowrider clips for existing models? Just a thought...

Noooo.... those angled studs are terrible. There have been quite a few Kershaw knives I have not bought because of the angled studs, including the very pricey Acies.

Really? I liked the Blur's thumb studs quite a lot. They were far more functional than the rounded ones when opening the knife.

As for the Knockout it a pretty nice knife at first glance. I like the blade shape and the handle shape. I would need to try one to see how well it actually fitted my hand and a few other details. Kershaw do put out a nice knife, explaining why they keep emptying my bank account.

Great looking knife. May be a little heavy for me though.

I got to handle this a few weeks ago when I visited Thomas and the Kershaw factory. I couldn't give you an actual weight, but it felt very light in hand. Remember the handle is mostly made of aluminum which is light.

This felt and looks awesome and I cannot wait for it! You guys will love it. I can't believe its only $99 MSRP too!

I might be late to the party but would someone care to explain a little more about the “sub-framelock”? I’ve tried searching but aside from this thread it just comes up with 1000 “what’s the best sub $200 frame lock” threads and the like.

I do like the looks of this guy a lot.

Edit: as long as I’m asking questions anyone have any idea how thick the blade is?

The lock is just screwed to the handle so that the handle can be any material and the lock can potentially be replaceable if something wears on it.

I love the fact that you gave it a reversible clip. Being a lefty this is one thing I require. Thanks.

A nice and inspired design, congratulations and thanks for the pics.
Any chance for a variation with G-10 or CF? Never been into aluminium myself... :(

Out of the new Kershaw designs Thomas posted, I like this one the best. I really like that they incorporated both the flipper and the thumbstud with A/O, really makes Kershaw stand out among other companies. The double textured handle looks amazing, too. A couple of questions: first, what is the backspacer made of? I'd be willing to pay more if you made it out of aluminum rather than plastic, since plastic cracks over time. Not a big deal for the old AFCK I got at a gun show (just replaced it with bushings), but if that happened on this knife, it would take out the Speedsafe system. Second, how much does it weigh? The choice of aluminum for the handle means that it could be very light for its size.

And +1 on new blade steels. I like 14C28N. It's a great value and performs well. But I'd also like the option of trying out new steels. Kershaw seems to be trailing in this respect; BM and Spyderco have been experimenting extensively with super steels like M390 and CPM-M4, as well as rust proof steels like H-1. But it's been a while since Kershaw made their ZDP-189 versions of knives, and I unfortunately missed that one. I'd love to see options like that introduced again.

Well, the shot show is all over with so is there a eta on this knife yet? I'm really looking forward to it!

Update:

We have opted to use G-10 as the handle material on the Knockout.

Delivery will be late 2nd quarter.

TBQH, I might be the only one, but I'm disappointed about the handle material change. :grumpy: I was pretty excited about those sweet looking Aluminum handles...for this knife, G10 doesn't really do anything for me. :(
