[FIRST LOOK] ZT 0566 (or, so you wanted a smaller 0560?)

You guys at KAI know what you are doing and the 0566 is a good example of that. Based on its success, I hope you leave the door open for a limited run with perhaps a Ti scale etc. sometime down the road for those interested.

I really like this new knife.
I always liked the 0560 but it was too big for me to carry so this one will be perfect.
I don't mind the steel frame at all but would like to know if it will work properly without the speed safe. By properly i mean, good detent and normal flipping action.
Also, will there be different scales to buy like the 0550 and 0560?

Thanks Jimmer, I think the knife is perfect and is exactly what was asked for by customers and I know I asked for it to much probably, no complaints at all. Well, except that there not in production yet. Thanks for building it and looking forward to EDC'ing this knife.

I have extremely small hands, and thought that the 561 was going to be too big for me. However, it fits my hand ergonomically just fine because of the excellent design, and every time I look at it now it looks smaller. I can't believe I ever thought it was a big knife. I can, however, see the utility of having a 3.25 inch version of this. I now have a couple of knives with titanium locks and although they both lock up well the ti-steel interface can be problematic. I like the idea of using a steel insert on the 801 but this knife avoids that whole problem by simply using steel. Since this will be an entry level knife for ZT I imagine that using the steel back plate and speed safe will keep disgruntled noohby customers confused by opening and sticky lock mechanisms to a minimum. Also, I prefer the 566 over the 801 Rexford design because the latter has no jimping or thumb ramping at the top.

I am totally thrilled that this is coming. Is there an eta yet? If this is popular enough, hopefully ZT will consider a 3d titanium version. I think this knife in the same materials/configuration as the 0560 would be worth the same retail as the 0560, even though its smaller. If its only ever available as we see it now, I'm still on board. Thank you, ZT!

I forgot to ask, what are the chances we could get a side by side picture of the 0566 and the 0350?

I think I saw or read somewhere an eta of 3rd quarter, but I'm not completely sure so don't quote me.

^^^ That's what was said on one of the Shot Show videos...for the love of God- bring it earlier please!!;):foot::D

The 566 looks great to me.

I carry a 561 with the blade razor sharp for SD - I love the size. I like to keep the blade pristine for that purpose, so I carry another folder for general utility - a 350 currently fills the utility role, but I foresee the 566 getting into that rotation. I don't mind mechanical assist for utility, but not for SD.

I really believe in this design as it stands. I am a knife snob myself, and I love high end materials as much as anyone. However, when you handle this knife, I really think that most of us will find that the lack of titanium is really not such a big deal as it might seem now.

I'll tell you what... this, and the 0801 are two ZT's that I will be pre-ordering. And I've never owned a ZT before. That's how much *I* like this design. Personally, I can hardly wait.

The 566 looks great. I am happy to see the blade is ELMAX. The steel frame lock does not concern me much. I know I will be getting one. I can't wait.

I'm really hoping the 3rd quarter estimate is just there to make people happy and not complain about a "late release". Us knife junkies tend to complain when we can't get our fix.

Well, releasing news of a bunch of new knives that will inspire people to wait for their production would undermine sales if production came very late in the year, so I'm guessing we won't have to wait nearly that long. If they really intended them for the third quarter they'd have released the news in June or something.
