First Post Blues...

:highly_amused: I was trying not to say anything about the shower knife. You guys are funny!

The 707 is a great EDC. Small enough for your watch pocket, big enough for regular tasks. I'd take that over the Manix any day of the week.

Welcome aboard, BTW. This place is dangerously addictive.

I just assumed our new friend wants to be prepared for a knife fight at any time, including while in the shower.

I keep my Spec Ops Soap-on-a-Rope handy just for that eventuality.

Look up the Spyderco ARK.
http://www.spyderco.com/catalog/details.php?product=921

The ARK—or “Always Ready Knife™—is a purpose-designed personal-defense knife conceived by U.S. Army combat veteran John Shirley and his friend Sam Owens. While deployed to Afghanistan, Shirley learned that an alarming number of U.S. personnel were falling victim to sexual assault, particularly while showering. Drawing from his knowledge of the Japanese martial arts and with the help of Owens’ skills as a craftsman, they developed the ARK as a lightweight self-defense tool that can literally be carried anywhere.

Fair enough. I guess my showers at my apartment aren't quite as sketchy as some, so I haven't felt the need to defend myself in the shower just yet. However, it is a good point that not all showers are so safe. So I guess there is a reason I might carry a knife in a shower (just not at my house, and likely only after some much needed training).

Cheers :).

I'm glad I carry a knife everyday, the forecast is calling for "light-showers"...

My shower is completely safe but it doesn't change the fact that I now want that Spyderco ARK H1.

This thread has taken an interesting turn.

I avoid possible social difficulties by just not showering. Which poses a whole new set of interesting social difficulties.

It's my baby, so of course I want to say good things about the ARK, but any knife chosen for defense in a place you will be literally cornered in must be instantly accessible and usable by feel. Since you can touch every part of your body instantly, without looking, a neck knife with a handle designed for instant indexing, in a good sheath, is a fast and intuitive option.

Think of all cash you can save. Don't have to purchase shampoo or bar soap any more. More money for knives!:D

Gee, it could get rid of a guy's dating problems too. Maybe I should have tried not showering in college. I never would have gotten close enough to a gal to ask her out. So I never would have been turned down. I could have saved a lot of time and money.

So, the moral is, what? Don't shower, keep your self esteem and have more money?

All good points Cat. You also save money on the water bill. So even more extra knife money. And those pesky neighbors don't come around so much. :D

Meh, who cares about the law... The law says I can't carry a D/A auto... I still do...

Chicago says I can't carry a 2.5"+ folder, so instead, I'll bring a 4" flipper:)

The speed limit sign on my was home said 45... I did 70...

We need more guys like this....and less of the other.

Ok. So....I've learned quite a few things from this thread...
Apparently, I've been forgiven for my initial faux pas
Both Manix 2 and 707 are good knives depending on your needs, likes/dislikes - try before you buy - if you can
Benchmade owners may or may not be a cult
Blues Bender seems to be one bad mofo
Shower knives might actually be a thing

Thanks guys!!! :)

Man, I already feel sorry for everyone on board your flight out here in July.

I hope the OP takes note at the general lack of critical thinking skills for humour on this board.
It was a rust test of H1, and a way to keep something handy if the unlikely but possible situation of home invasion occurred
while one is literally naked of all armour, weapons beside the eight on the body.
Sigh... Group think like this was why I left the boards. It also was a bit of a durability test to see if any internal mechanisms would be bothered by rust, humidity, and things never supposed to venture near a knife's locking mechanism.
Why waste anymore breath?

Not worth my time to address a laughing pack of hyenas.

Sorry if we offended you, We're just having a little fun, that's not a bad thing.:D life is too short to not have a few laughs, that would be boring.

And how exactly is this "group think"?

LOL, it's ok, I'm driving. Just feel sorry for my son who is traveling with me. :D

Sounds like you got all the same things that I got out of this thread :).

Welcome aboard, and find something that interests you, and have fun. Read a bunch, ask questions that you haven't seen/been able to find answers for, and you will probably stick around for a while.

I wasn't trying to offend, I was just curious. I figured that just because I couldn't think of a reason why I would carry a knife in the shower, didn't mean there wasn't a reason someone else might. Turns out, I was right.

To be fair, I do think that leaving a knife in the shower to test its rust resistance is a totally acceptable reason to have a "shower knife". The rust test is a good reason, and then others reminded me that not all showers are like the one I have in my apartment, which is another valid reason to carry a knife in the shower, so in the future I can actually have a response when someone else mentions the same thing.

But, sorry if I caused you any grief, none was intended.

I think I can see a bit of what he's thinking about, although I think I interpreted it as confusion around the isolated statement of "shower knife". And, to be fair, you do see a bit of what could be group think around here, at least around knives that are frequently recommended around here. I mean, how many "what survival knife" threads get ESEE/Becker recommendations (even from people that don't own one, or either of those brands)? Same thing with lots of other common threads ("best EDC under $40/100/300" etc).

I'm not sure how much of that is "group think", and how much of it is just that the "ESEE/Becker/Mora/Tramontia/etc" response are really just the best answer. Its hard to say really (and I have thought about it some, as one that has recommended ESEE knives, but never held/owned one).

Anyway, enough rambling...

Buy a Mora for camping :D.

^and that one I do own :).

It's called a joke brother:thumbup:

You should see how me and the guys at work (construction) talk to each other in person... Life is too short to be serious all the time:)
