First Run of BK62's to Be Released

Didn’t even give it a full hour. Wiped the excess oil off and now I’ll give it a few days to cure...

Very nice man. I was going to do something similar to mine, if it ever gets here, haha.

It's an old timey leather dye, that works on woods with a high tannin content. It's made of rust and vinegar, basically.

I put steel wool in a plastic bucket or Tupperware, and spritz it with salt water for a few days until it crumbles to dust. Put the rust in a mason jar and top with vinegar. Seal and shake every few days.

Brushed onto veg tan leather, it dyes it a deep black that can't rub off, as it chemically changes the leather. Same as wood. Rather than a surface stain, or lightly penetrating one, the chemical reaction makes it black.

Vinegaroon?
Google “vinegaroon spider”. Dare ya.

...told my stepson to vinegaroon some leather he wanted black. Texted me he was scarred from the images that popped up when he tried googling it haha.

Serious envy going on seeing all the new shinies. Guess I'll have to make do with the current Keps. Condor and a homemade one cut from an OH butcher.

Edit: image posting doesn't seem to be my friend at the moment... So here's a link

Looks good. If you want to post pics, find the “BBC” code and copy&paste it. There’s a how-to further down on this forum. Oh, and don’t try and use the apps for that; they’re worse than useless.

just saying, there's going to be a contest.

original non modified secret sauce required :D

for the love of the ghods, use your knives as made for at least a couple weeks ;)

there's a reason!

(if you modify it, it's not a Kephart anymore, and that's t he whole point)

:D

So many decisions to make! I've a drawer full of fancy hardwoods to make new scales from. Maybe roasted birch, or African Blackwood.

A little vinegar on walnut will darken it up real Nice, too. Or if you have a day or two, make up a batch of vinegaroon.
I've seen where people repair an old shed, etc, and spray vinegar to age it, and match the rest. Works very well.

I'm gonna turn mine into a clip point as soon as it comes in, haha. :D Wait a minute, IF it comes in.
