Fixed blades

Mine is actually much shallower than my old Swamp Comp Mega Ratweiler. I don’t know if the coating makes that much of difference, but the grind and BTE are substantially thicker than my old MR.
Oof, yea she's a hefty girl. Maybe a liitle exercise on an edge pro or wicked edge will tone her up a bit!

I have the 5.5 (because no choil) in 3v and it's very nice but haven'tused it yet. First time I held the ESEE 6 handle and it's one of the best I've ever tried. Going to get a Magnacut as soon as it's in stock.

Serious question,Why do you like the no choil version? Better at skinning? I’m considering a 5.5 myself and saw the option. I’m genuinely interested in the information.

Thanks

The 5.5 isn’t no choil, it’s small choil.

I’d rather have a big one you can stick a finger in or none at all. All the small ones are good for is snagging.

My Volunteer Knife Mod 4 in 3V arrived this evening and it is even nicer in hand than the photos they sent. Excellent fit/finish/ergos/design and awesome communication and service. I love my Mod 11, and am looking forward to getting my ordered 3.5 when it is completed. These folks are knocking it out of the park!
I bought three Volunteer knives in 2023 and I’ve been wowed by every one. If they made more than the three models, I’d buy more

It comes down to personal preference. I hate finger choils and have no idea why anyone would rather grip the blade instead of a handle. Makes no sense to me. Also, they look hideous. A small sharpening choil is ok but I would rather not have that either. One can be added easily. Both types will snag but everything will get in the finger choil due to the ridiculous size of it.

I just started doing kitchen knives a couple months ago......
So far, so good. But by the time you're ready, I'll only be better. ;)

*also, there's lots of Great steels to use for kitchen duty

It was my first.
This one was heat treated at Bos to 63-64
Turned out well.
I ended up donating it (the proceeds from the sale) to the local animal shelter where we got our family dog.... :)
