Fixed blades

That'll take a head off ;)

Is that a gossman steel?

Good eye! ;)
It IS a sharpening steel by him.
It's one of my favorite things in my knife making shop. I recommend them to Everyone.
*It's funny, because idk How to use it, but whatever I'm doing works, because My knives are sharper.....haha

Wish he made even bigger ones. :D
It's a very old design, Not his...
I've thought about making a bench sized version on one of my next send outs for Heat treats.
Not much to it, I'm sure Bos could get it crazy Hard

That is sweet! One you made?

It's my First big chopper....
I've got 4 more coming in various flavors.

I Love making edc knives, and camp knives, etc....
But after doing This one, I could see myself doing Only choppers. It's hard to describe, but as a knife enthusiast, you know how Awesome it is to buy/hold/use a big knife/chopper?

Well, making It gives even a bigger rush! 🥰
I've been fondling this one off and on again the last few months. Mmmmmm.

Yeah I've always wondered how he makes them and how they actually work lol.

It's Just hard, scratched up steel.

What's magical, and something I can't explain is that I generally make knives out of Very Hard steel.... And this thing still works very well.

It's described as a tiny bit more aggressive as stropping.

I appreciate the clarification :) I know people swear by those gossman steels, that's interesting stuff.

I went back through this thread and saw your first posts about those choppers. Very cool!

Those handles look really comfortable too! I don't think you'll have any trouble selling those in a split second.

Thanks, I updated the handle a tiny bit, making it a hair longer. It's almost a hand & a half now, on the New versions. I made it super comfy for all hand positions. The "hook" doesn't bite into your hand at all. I can hold and swing with a loose, relaxed grip. (obviously DON'T do that, that would be stupid) but I can.

I have a famous Makers chopper who no longer posts here.
I did some heavy study of his bowie type handles, and I feel like I got an amazing lesson pack that I can reference when needed... It helped alot.

Always a great idea to reference knives that did "it" right. That sounds awesome! I can't wait to see how they all turn out!

Incredibly comfortable handles and the fit and finish is spot on.........Going to have to add another eventually.

Whew.. That's a pretty SOB! That's my style too, I love the mortised handle!
I have another batch of EDC size blades out for heat treat right now. :)
Son of a gun... I'm going to keep my eyes peeled on your work! I can't justify another knife right at this moment, but it's never too long before I break down and go against my better judgement on keeping a budget.

This just in!

Where to begin?

After a few early-2000's "rotary" and "fixed-wing" hops between An Nasiriyah/Al Basrah/Kuwait, I quickly became a big fan of two EPIC "Crewman"/"Aircrew" knives. The Ontario "499" PSK and "ASEK" pretty-regularly rode on my kit back then, and took quite a few "1st Class" flights with me...

A few months back, after seeing his talent with a coupla' "Sawback KaBar-style" knives in The Exchange, I enlisted the talent(s) of our very own cardman cardman (*"Tyler Smith") I sent him a couple of ASEK blade blanks and asked him to make me a couple of robust "hybrid" examples of the two. We went back & forth for weeks on the specs. I even enlisted the help of my "BrainTrust" (* @ferider , @coolbreezy37 , luethge luethge ) in the process, just for good measure...

Anyhow, after all the back & forth, Tyler built me a coupla' bulletproof "Crewman" knives that I humbly dubbed "JSEKs"... (*because I'm "J.J.")

*As far as I can tell, Roland, Damien, and Kyle were pretty happy with the results.

Those turned out great. cardman cardman killed it. JJ - you’ve got an excellent collection of sharp toys.. the thing I appreciate the most about you - all of the knives get used 👍. I can always count on your encouragement to buy more sharp Carbon steel.

Thanks, Brother. It means a lot coming from you, especially since you were there for the whole process.

As far as "sharp carbon" thing, yeah, I'm the last guy to talk to if you're looking for someone to talk you out of it. :)
