Fixed blades

Current collection of fixed blades, I have two others but they're up for sale and are resting in their boxes, but these are all pretty nice cutters!

I must be the dinosaur in the room. All the wonderful custom knives and I am perfectly content with a Buck, Case or USA made schrade including the green grip old timers.
Buck, Case, and Schrade are "home" for a lot of us here. I still have my old Buck 102's and 110's, a drawerful of Case Copperlocks, and some of those old green-handled USA Schrade fixies. But we like to wander, to see and explore what else is out there...over the hills, around the bends, and down yonder. Yes, we wander, but most of us are not lost, nor ill-contented, and we know exactly where home really is.

Cut my teeth on all of that stuff. I was content with it until I didn’t have to be anymore. Everything mentioned definitely works, but like you said there’s too many others to be had.

Nostalgic for sure, and sometimes I yearn for that. And I buy one. And I use it. Then I sell it. They simply can’t keep up with what I’m used to using.

I’d like to plop a Busse or Carothers or something like that in his hand and see how it does.

Leagues different, in both performance and durability. It's hard to not see the value over the old guard, but the old guard did just fine for our grandparents. I see the allure and nostalgia with the older styles, and I love that they aren't lost all together. It's like a living history where we get to sample blades from various times and generations and watch it evolve into what it is today, or will be tomorrow. Yep, I'm a nerd about knives 😁

I understand what you mean.

You nailed it with your "use it" comment. In the late 70's and early 80's when I carried and used a knife more than I do now, all that was available were Buck, Case and Schrade. Back in those days I farmed, hunted and fished. I spent more time outdoors than now.
Now a days, I carry a knife daily but most days it stays in my pocket. If I used a knife as much as some members here, I might find the benefits of a custom.

Custom verses mass production does lend itself to higher durability and better performance. I can see where a person that uses a fixed blade daily and in the manner some here do wants something other than a production blade.
It is interesting to see the progression.

Thanks for the replies, thoughts and insights
