Fixed blades

I received my "Basic 5" today.

Although it may not seem like it, I've been slowing down my purchases a bit, over the last coupla' years or so. I almost didn't try for one but am glad that I did. Man, it's everything I'd hoped it'd be...strong, simplistic, ergonomic, and well-executed. I can't wait to spend a few days with it.

Here it is with my little SDFK, which is still my FAVORITE Carothers knife...

Hey Brother, that Volunteer 12 looks the business.

I'm not on Facebook. Can you share some specs and tell me a little about it?

I don’t do Facebook either.
The Mod 12 is 12” OAL, 7” tip of blade to finger guard, .21 spine, CPM3V. Here is a couple of shots with my SDFK (which I love). The Mod 12 balance point is just ahead of the SDFK. It packs a potent wallop🤣

Bart & Whitney are great about responding to emails if you have any specific questions.

Stay safe.

*Guess what's next on my list. 🙂

What a week!! Last Saturday scored my first Volunteer Knife on the Knife Exchange. Whitney and Bart got it out Monday morning and it showed up Wednesday. Then yesterday I get a notice that a package from Jonni Jo Carothers is scheduled to arrive today.
So in one week I received my first Volunteer Knife - Model 3 in AEB-L and my Carothers’ 3” EDC, that was preordered mid-October.
Which one do I carry first? Or do I go double fisted?

Definitely double fisted. Christmas is a little early. Nice ones. When using, let us know which one you prefer for certain jobs.

Did a little comparison in handle comfort, the dek and the demko were basically tied, most comfortable was the res c on the sykco and volunteer and the cheap munchkin were the worst. Not surprising really, the thinner handles made more of a hotspot in the hardwood. I like handle shape on the volunteer for edc/concealing but it's not quite as nice to carve with in hard stuff. 20241123_113956.jpg

Kinda surprised the DEK and Demko tied, being so different.

It is kind of odd, bearing down put pressure on a specific spot in my hand and those 2 were just about equal in how much discomfort I felt. The demko being more hand filling and softer should theoretically pull ahead, but the 3d design on the dek handle is neck and neck for me. Interesting

Some specs for this.....🙏......Pretty please........
Barry Dawson #58 Sheffield Bowie, Durango CO circa 1980, steel uncertain. OAL 14", blade length 9" from scales (including ricasso), 5.25" sharpened false edge. 6mm or 1/4" thick at spine. POB 5.75" from pommel, directly in line with center of choil. Weight 16.45 oz or 466g; 23.4 oz or 663g sheathed. Desert ironwood scales with plain brass pins. Bicycle inner tube for extra grip.

As pure a fighting knife as I currently own, but not what I would call nimble. Needs real distal taper.
