FK2

^^UFK was milled and tumbled, the fact that it is that clean is a testament to Nathan and his process. The latest UF was done the same way.

The older knives, like your EDC, followed a different process, which resulted in a "cleaner" but not necessarily "better" finish. It was also more laborious.

The new finish, as on the UFK and UF have made both those models rediculously affordable for what you get.
Lol I was too slow

A FK2 sample in buffed black linen along with an EDC2 in black G10:
Congrats, i do like that Black Linen:thumbsup:

The following comment is just an observation about the new model... Perhaps more of a CPK "geek fan" detail regarding machining process but I've noticed some very fine machining striations almost like the fine grit belt grind marks of a hand ground knife to the primary bevels of the FK2.

I don't think I've observed this with other CPK model/samples before? Maybe Nathan is running/cutting the primary bevels of the FK2 on a new machine center? The flats don't seem to exhibit this characteristic.

Some photos trying to capture what I'm describing:

We will continue to hand grind the more expensive models, but the Utility Fighter and the Utility Field knives are intended to be relatively affordable utility-grade tools for real users. Avoiding the hand grinding steps helps keep the cost reasonable compared to some of our other offerings and the final finish works okay for a utility knife.

Hey Jo,
I was trying to send you a PM regarding a reference in this thread but your inbox is full...

I promised some pictures but extenuating circumstances have kept me domestic since the Field Knife landed. All I've got are these down and dirty in-hand pics. I usually opt for glove size XL but can squeeze into some size large gloves. I will say that the updated version feels good

Ok I have to ask:

Anyone plan to send a UFK into Brian at Sagewood Gear?

I want to get in on the order if anyone plans to and doesn’t mind me using their knife as a blank while it’s in there.

I don’t have a UFK yet, but I’m sure to get one and I’ll need my usual sheath setup.

Thanks!

Brian has reached out to Jo and plans to get one. I had emailed him a while back.

Awesome!!! Exact combo I have coming.
My knives have been sitting in customs the last 2 weeks. They just cleared today. Will likely have them Monday or Tuesday!!!

I got out on a short hike this morning. Lots of old oil wells on this trail. Love this knife combo of the Fk2 and the Shirogorov.

The Fk2 is a well rounded blade that is not just competent at a few tasks, it excel at all tasks that I could ask of a knife of this size range. The Lt Wright Genesis is a feather making machine yet the Fk2 handled the job equally as well. I probably would not baton or pry with the Genesis but would use the Fk2 in that role with no second thoughts.

I just randomly fell during my walk, no way my ass was going to cross over this small bridge. Not that it’s a daunting obstacle but if I can accidentally hurt myself, I usually do.

The Fk2 will be my summer belt knife and I’m looking forward to using it daily.

Finally managed to find some time to take some decent pictures of this beauty after I sort out my gears from my hike in The Philippines. Am gald to report back that I managed to bring back the HDFK safely too.

The handle is the biggest difference in the new version of the FK. It fills the hand and gives more confident when I grip it hard. I am loving it.

The black micarta handle scale on my FK1 was scratched from a fall while night hiking in a creek with my nieces. I bought a set of replacement scales but decided not to replace them as the scratches bring back fond memories of the hike with my nieces.

I got lucky again on the 1st Mar sale to score another FK2. My third successful Friday sale. The 40 available knives sure helped increase my chances as I can never score when only 10-20 knives were available. I didn’t set my alarm to wake me up this time as I decided to leave it to fate. I told myself if I woke up magically before 4am, I will try to bid for one. Some how I woke up magically at 3am by myself and was lucky to win one at 4am. I guess this is fate.
