Flashlights

I've been wanting a TK10 since it first came out, but decided to go with something smaller for EDC so I got the surefire, but soon I'll have a black TK10.

Cree makes some nice stainless steel flashlights. They are LED lights. I have one that uses standard AA batteries. If you want a brighter light get the one that uses Lithium batteries (more expensive, but if you buy 20 at a time, you can get them from Surefire for about $2.00 dollars a piece). The one I have cost about $20.00 dollars. Just get on ebay and search for stainless steel flashlight or Cree.

Here is link to the Cree flashlight that I was talking about. http://www.kaidomain.com/WEBUI/ProductDetail.aspx?TranID=4140&rId=1218

I scored an Inova T3 a few weeks ago. 3 CR123 batteries for a 2.5 hr run-time. I liked it so much I recently ordered a Fenix P1D Premium just to see why everyone raves about them!

Only gripe about the T3 is that it had no sheath; ordered a Spec-Ops flashlight sheath that is functional but there could be better.

This is a great topic. I have been looking for a good light for while. Great info here guys, thanks. I think I am going to start out with a Fenix, and hopefully not get hooked like I am on Infi.

I often carry Surefire L1 Cree and it's a GREAT flashlight! Maybe a little too big for pant's pocket carry, but if carried in a jacket or in a bag/backpack it's perfect. It's a dual output flashlight - which is a very big plus, beacuse normally very strong beam is not needed, but when it is - all you have to do is to press the button harder a bit. The low beam is 10 lumens - which is more than enough for every day (actaully every night) tasks like lighting the way. The brighter mode is 65 lumens and the difference is clearly noticeable. When I used my L-1 on high mode for the first time in a forest by night in totall darkness, I was amazed how powerfull it was, especially in comparsion to 3D maglite my friend had at that time. On the low mode the L-1 can run 16 hours on one battery! On high - it's a bit more than an hour. Excellent light for me. Another light I read only goods reviews of it Surefire E1b. It's a bit cheaper than L-1, and a little smaller. It also has dual output - high - 80 lumens and low - 5 lumens. Battery life is a bit more than an hour on high and a around 32 hours on low!
The main difference between L-1 and E1b is the switch. E1b has a clicky one, and L-1 not - to turn the light on permanently you have to turn the switch. When you turn L-1 first you have low mode (but if you press harder you can have go to high mode at once). When you turn E-1b - the high mode is first (as this light was projected as back up light for LEOs etc and hgh mode is more usefull when you want to lighten up something at once, or stun somebody for a second).
I'd buy only a light that takes one battery - it's much easier replaceable (easier to carry one spare battery than two) and cheaper.

I have a T1-Fenix, it's really my first "better" flashlight. It is almost too bright for the usual situations. It would be nice to have a third - lower setting. but it is a great light for sure.
I'm in a search for a smaller-EDC sized flashlight now, and those Novatac ones REALLY caught my eyes...do you know a good online store with international shipping what carries these babies?

Here's a good deal on the Special Edition OLIGHT T20 w. Cree Q5 WC LED 5 levels, 3 modes, 205+ lumens! 2 x CR123A. Has anyone tried one of these?
I'm also in the market for an EDC light. I believe the sale is on till July 4th. Another plus for OLIGHT Technology is they're made in the good old U.S.A. North Carolina I believe.

Also check out the 2008 Olight T10 . It has the newer Cree Q5 WC LED 5 levels, 3 modes, 190 lumens! 1 x CR123A and is only 3.5" long.
This thread helped me make up my mind. I just ordered the T10, shorter, less batteries, and still gets good runtime. Better for EDC, just ordered mine.

You might try BatteryStation.com or Lighthound.com

For an relatively inexpensive, small light try the Lumapower Incendio. Check out BatteryJunction.com. I love it for a small multi-stage light with a clicky instead of twist on/off. About $55, very bright and very small.

I should have my Fenix TK10 by Sat. I will post a quick review here but I can only compare it to the cheap flash lights I have had. Well, I have had one Inova which woeks pretty good with blue light.

I looked on the web and figured out that I bought a Fenix P3D and a TK10. They are both 2 CR123a flashlights.

For me the P3D is perfect for most situations, it has several modes from 9 to 160 lumens plus SOS and strobe. It is just a bit longer than the width of my fist so if you wanted to use it like a cop, you could smack someone with the bezel. The body is pretty slim and mostly round, it won't get hung up on things. I wouldn't plan on carrying it in my pocket but I could.

The TK10 is a larger flashlight with a better reflector that will throw the beam quite far. It has two modes, 60 and 225 lumens. It's advertised run time at 225 lumens is only slightly shorter than the P3D at 160 Lumens. It also has a strike bezel. Its designed to be tactical and it's got the heft to do much better at smacking people. You could carry it in your pocket but you wouldn't want to.

Now I see that they are just about to release the TK11 which can take a neat lithium ion rechargeable and has a different reflector. I guess I bought too soon at Blade.

The rechargeable part sounds nice but I'll probably wait a while before I upgrade again.

I would like to find a tiny key chain light with a low power red led so I can use it without messing up night vision (dark adjusted eyes, not goggles). It would have to use a tiny lithium battery with a very long run time but hopefully not very expensive. Waterproof and durable enough to survive my pocket would be required also. A dual mode red/white would be cool also. If any one knows of a flash light that fits that description, let me know.

Sounds like the Photon II. You can get them cheaper from Batteryjunction.com

I recommend a Surefire LED for a long run time. Yes they are expensive but a quality product and you get what you pay for. The customer service from what I've experienced is great. The pocket clip on my Executive E2E got caught on the door as I was getting out of my Jeep and broke off. I emailed Surefire about buying a replacement. They sent me a replacement for free with no questions asked and it arrived quickly. One of my brothers coworkers had a Xenon lamp burn out within the first month and he promptly received a replacement from Surefire.

How durable are they?

I had a few innova's kind of like that and I wasn't impressed with their durability.

I liked the fact that the freedom micro has a covert red option and the ReX looks like a good idea if they would have made one of the LEDs covert and red.

I think I will have to keep looking.

They are very durable. I had one attached to my keychain for about 6yrs. About a year ago I replaced it with new model Photon X light???? The one with a rubber outer shell that white and somewhat clear.
