Flashlights

After reading this thread several times, reading as many reviews as I could find, and excessively researching I was coin flip close between the HDS and Lens Light. I had ordered before another member informed me of where I could order HDS in stock (and at a very very good price I might add), so for better or worse I have a lens light mini on the way. By mid way through next week I should have my first investigator pen and my lens light, and for the first time since I really started focusing on my EDC, I think I'm satisfied. It won't last forever (and probably won't last as long as it should), but I think I'm to the point that I can really start weighing upgrades. Either way, next on my list is a good set of new boots, I think I'm leaning towards Paul Bond, but this probably isn't the place for that conversation.

Take a look at this thread...the gear reviews haven't happened yet, and talking gear is not frowned upon here.

Always good to hear. One of my favorite aspects of the Hinderer section is the general respect for quality gear that holds all of the same elements as the knives we all love. I wear cowboy boots pretty much every day, and have since I was a kid (they did stand out a bit college and law school, neither of which were in cowboy country, but nevertheless). I've been looking for the "perfect" pair for years with no luck. With my somewhat new found respect for small shops and custom makers, thanks to my renewed interest in the tools I carry daily, I've started looking to smaller shops to find something worth a lifetime ownership.

I know a place has some HDS's "in stock" (no Rotaries) but 120 hcri, 200 LE and executive ....

i have been looking for a smaller 18650x1 light, semi thrower with lots or different output setting and a long duration moonlight.

i have a olight m22, SF fury, klaurs st11, and a few fenix lights.

i tried a fenix e35 and liked it but found the user face clumsy

i just got a nitecore ec2 and this thing is awesome. its pretty small for its respective category. it has 7000 or so CD's which is a throwy beam. it has lots of lumen modes. all are quick and simple to access and it runs on button type protected 18650's. i have used it for 3 weeks now and even in my smaller pants or without a jacket i always have this with me. really happy so far and in 3 weeks and nightly long dog walks i still am reading 4.1v out of my battery. and to top it off i picked it for for 37$ for that price i feel everyone who is into lights should check this one out

Real life EDC example that happened last night (and this morning) the Wife screams, "Ahhhhhh Honey! I can't get the water turned OFF!!!"
Late night jacuzzi so she could get the Football Game chill out of the bones and the cold water shutoff broke. I went from mostly asleep into full speed combat mode in 17 year old speed. Needed a light and a wrench and a trip three floors down to the shutoff valves.
Thank God I had my rotary 200 because throughout that tour I needed various output intensity(s) from Bright to not blinding and back up again.
This morning while trying to peer into the broken abyss that should have been the shut off handle - the 200 was just too bright turned down was better but still there was a better choice (too much reflection/backwash) so....... out came the 120 Hcri. Had the intensity settings I needed and because of the Hcri - NO backwash light reflection.
Nice having choices.:)

The rotary is/was a great light to have in an EDC pinch. The size and seemingly infinite adjustments while never heating up in my hand was great and considering I was working around water and a drop was likely - the potted electronics and virtual water proof aspect was a nice plus too. If my close-up sight was better the reflection wouldn't have been an issue.

Went with the 200 Exec.

I have the Exec's too. (120, 140 and 170 are clickies) it comes already programmed with great settings but "If" you desire 4 different settings for whatever reason - you got it. (low-med-high-strobe) as an example. Nice thing is you get to pick what "you" think is low or med or high.

For hiking or backpacking/camping I can see the ec Nitecores haing a nice role in a backup (or maybe primary for some) position. However, I've fallen for spec sheets in the past and until I put lights side-by-side and use them IRL for awhile, I believe little info. from the mass-produced (esp. foreign) companies.

I'm a tail-clicky guy.

Happy you had a good outcome on a potentially messy and headache-filled situation!

Glad you are liking the HDS stuff so much, now I'm sorry I put one in your hands at the Ranch.

I'm not the biggest fan of the stepped outputs on the rotary, but that's a personal thing. Much prefer an "infinate" type adjustment. I do understand why some things are as they are on Henry's lights though.

Thanks for the info last evening...Not counting my chickens but went for a HiCRI.

Here is a beam shot of my 200 rotary at just shy of 100 yds. That is my target backdrop which is a 4'x6' sheet of plywood.

500 Lumen SF Fury

Nitecore 800 lumen
