Flashlights

I don't know if you have tried an RCR 16340 in a 4-7's Quark Mini123, but it's outstanding! Super bright, and for its size, the pocketability is more than perfect.

I've got 3 of those. Great for when I travel by air. TSA looks at like a keychain light. But they be bright.

Anybody and everybody feel free to post photos of Hinderers with your choice of EDC illumination tool.

Glad you have seen the light and it doesn't have to be just about your narrowly defined needs.

This thread can morph from its original intent if that's the will of the majority.

You crack me up with your "will of the majority". Inclusiveness was my point and why I took exception to the nonsense you posted in #427.

I just ordered a Fenix PD35. Would love to hear from anybody who has one already. I have read great things about it but don't know anyone that has one.

I picked one up a couple weeks ago and i love it, more than bright enough for evening dog walks in the park, and i don't need a strobe function.

And got it for 62.50 on the auction site, which isn't too bad considering they want like 75.00 everywhere else.

That is one of my general annoyances with many lights, the addition of strobe, SOS, and random other flashing combinations I don't need. Some of the Eagletac Ti clicky lights are nice for the money but the UI is dreadful in my opinion.

Last night around 10:30 I let my rottie Maya out to do her business. She must have seen a cat or rabbit and took off like a bat out of hell. I tried my "come!" Command but no luck. I was forced to walk the neighborhood for 45 min until I found her. Fortunately I had my HDS clicky 170 to light the way. This was my first time really using the light besides in the backyard messing around. I was very happy with its performance. It is by far the best light I have owned and I am tempted to try to land a rotary 200 next. Anyway glad it was in my coat pocket at the time and glad I got her back safe and sound.

Glad it had a happy ending Jensen. I think the "Come" command when the Dog already has "target lock" is a TV show fantasy.
I have said it before but will repeat because it still holds true for me. I carry AND use my HDS 200 lumen Rotary EVERY Day and Night. I use the Rotary function constantly. I would use the onboard programmability IF there was a function I wanted/didn't want/ or wanted tweaked. The light IS as I have described it "Hinderer like" in its quality IMO.
Just this weekend, I threww mine (inadvertantly) about 15 feet (full force) into a pile of rocks and was sure I had killed it. Not even a nick or a scratch and it works just fine. Mason had jerked and spun me while it was in my hand and it simply got flung in my attempt to avoid serious injury - I heard the impact and immediately knew where it had gone.
The light serves my Every need and rides right with my Hinderer XM where ever I go.

^ I'm glad that your scenario ended well also Rubi. No injuries to you or your HDS. :)

I was happy to see that I am not as old as I sometimes feel. When he yanked... I had Pete on the other line and they spun/bent/twisted and generally pretzelled me into some wierd verticle human origami thing that I not only survived but didn't suffer an injury.
I was pretty proud :)

Thought the light was a goner however. Tough unit.

Glad you got you dog back Jensen! I've certainly chased after a few myself. I actually had a little light issue myself last night. Where I live people do not walk around in the middle of the night- especially on someone else's property. I heard someone lurking around outside at about 3:30 this morning and decided to investigate. Everything turned out ok (a shady dude apparently had a car accident and needed help), but I certainly wasn't going to go look about without scouting through the window. Long story short, 5 lumens is entirely too bright for the lowest setting. I had to try and filter the light through my fingers to maintain night vision and not illuminate the windows I was looking out. The Lens Light is great in many ways, but this is one occasion I definitely wish I'd opted for the HDS rotary instead.

My small flashlights. Haiku is in my work jacket and Cu Lenslight is in the dark abyss or maybe the couch.
Newest to oldest.

HDS Rotary, V10r+, MDC, HDS 200 exec., RRT-01, Quark tact., mini, mini Ti, Novatac 120, e2e incan, e1e incan.

Brightest by far is the RRT-01 but it's custom. I carry the Haiku and HDS 200 exec the most, the rotary will replace the exec. Have some custom nichia 219 led dropins for the e2e and e1e coming from Croatia.

meluck - me like ! Quite a variety you have. Curious to the build quality of the Novatac vs HDS. I read somewhere Henry left Novatac to start HDS and his quality is much better. The Haiku would be my grail, build similar to what we are accustomed from Hinderer. Thanks for sharing.

If you break the Novatac and HDS down, they are very similar. They're are a lot of people who say they are junk and have had lots of problems, but my sample of one has been good for over 5 years. The Haiku, I have decided is my favorite because of the light quality, but I do also like the HDS's toughness and practicality.

Wow, Never had any problems with any of my HDS lights. Maybe just got lucky...
I don't think I own any Novatacs so I can't comment nor do I have a Haiku.
Some (and I can't list who) of the "Customs" turned me off because of lack of response from the Principle of the Company or I just didn't want to restrict my battery choices.
I used to think Flashlights were a "Hobby" but the Industry burned me out. I just want a really good, reliable, versatile, durable - light in my pocket.
For me, For now it's the HDS Rotary. Until Rick starts pushing out illumination devices (:)) that is where I am at.

Sorry Rubi, didn't make it clear. Some say the novatac is junk not the HDS. I've had no problems with either. I do wish that my rotary low level was a little bit lower. Mine also does not tail stand, almost but not quite there.

I'm pretty sure I know which customs you are talking about. I can tell you that Don of McGizmo is very responsive and backs his stuff.

Luck, you are in the know with what you've posted. Hiku is sweet, but... That said, I still would like to own one.

And I didn't misread you on HDS. The Nova stuff feels way lighter and less robust than the HDS. Mine sits as a paperweight as I have other lights for a variety of tasks and that one doesn't have a prominent place in my use...

Im in agreement on the turn off on the customer service end...but also don't forget we are spoiled by the outstanding job our favorite customer service provides.

And for now, the HDS rotary is in my pocket while I continue my hunt. May order a flush-button version.

Haiku is very sweet. If he made a model for half the cost I'd get 5 today. Thea only prob I have with my nova is that the battery recognition programming isn't working. I can only use RCR's.

Ever hear of Maratac Cr123 copper ? Looks robust and some say it's like holding a roll of quarters in your hand. Three modes 1.8 - 50 - 260 lumens Cree X P G twisty. Anyhow it's en route along with a Sunwayman 11R Ti Sirius picked up on the exchange. Please Henry ship my HDS 200 Rotary!
So far all of the torches in the dogpile work fine, some finer than others. I would put my HDS 120 clicky on the top of the pile thus far.
Seems as though I've acclimated myself to the robust Hinderer standard which has become the benchmark for measuring quality of other products.

For those who are still looking, I will comment on what i know based on what I see and touch.
All My HDS pieces are flush tail clickies and ALL tail-stand, a feature I do use. They seem to run endlessly on one (1) Cr123
I love the variance between my four(4) models. Whether it be functionality (rotary), Quality of light (cri), beam focus (140) or just overall feel and confidence I have.
My opinion is growing old even with me so I will probably shut up and just continue to use my EDC's as I see fit, as I mentioned .... the flashlight Hobby has probably run its course with me which may mean I either found what "I" needed OR it simply burned me out on choices which equalled dissappointments.
For those still enjoying the quest - Enjoy! Who knows, I may rejoin the hunt but for now (for me) the HDS is just fine.
Tootles!
Rubi
